Seeking Advice for Troubleshooting ABS/DSC System, Airbag Light, and Stored Fault in 2013 Volvo XC90

ABS/DSC system is not working

Airbag warning light

Fault stored

Hey fellow gearheads, I've got a 2013 Volvo XC90, Gasoline engine with about 179,382 KM on the clock. Lately, I'm facing some issues including a non-functioning ABS/DSC system, an illuminated airbag warning light and a stored fault. My hunch is that it's down to a dodgy communication with the steering angle sensor. Had a bit of an ordeal with my last mechanic so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can this time before heading in. Anyone else had this kind of trouble? What was your experience with getting it fixed? Any good mechanic you guys can vouch for? Cheers!

Hey, funny coincidence, I can absolutely relate. I drive a 2010 Volvo XC90, and encountered a similar scenario not so long ago. The issue ended up being a faulty cable connection to the steering angle sensor, just like you're suggesting for yours. Turned out, the defect was messing up the ABS/DSC system because the erroneous data from the sensor was jumbling up the processing unit's calculations. The airbag issue was similarly tied to it, didn't know that myself until the mechanic explained it - though it seemed a bit far-fetched at first. In terms of dealing with it, I gotta say, I wouldn't categorize it as an easy fix, but it's definitely manageable if you've got a skilled mechanic leading the operation. Swapping out the cables and recalibration of the sensor was the major part of the job. Additionally, the mechanic had to reset the error codes for the ABS/DSC system and the airbag warning. As for the mechanics, I can't suggest anyone specific as I got it done at the official Volvo service center, would recommend you do the same as long as it's within reach for you. Good luck, hope your XC90 gets sorted out without much hassle. Cheers!

Hey! Your situation sounds eerily similar to what's going on with my 2013 XC90. Great to hear things got sorted out with yours. Do you happen to remember roughly what the damage to your wallet was when you got it fixed? Did anything else come up since then that I should maybe keep an eye on? Thanks for the advice and let's hope it's as you said, just a skilled mechanic away from a solution! Cheers!

Hey there! Absolutely, I can give you a ballpark figure on the cost. The fix for the faulty cable connection to the steering angle sensor set me back around 155€. It wasn't exactly a small dent in the wallet, but considering the complexity of the job it was pretty reasonable and well worth to get rid of that mess of issues. Since then, touch wood, everything's been smooth riding. Just remember, it's crucial to have that sensor properly calibrated after the new cables are installed, so make sure your mechanic is up to snuff! Also, you now know, if any more seemingly out-of-left-field warnings pop up on your dashboard in future, it could well be tied to your steering angle sensor. Here's to a quick fix of your XC90! Safe driving! Cheers!

Hey! The cost is pretty reasonable considering the circumstances. It's comforting to know that the issue was resolved and nothing major has happened since then. Thanks for the heads-up about the sensor calibration and the tip about future warnings - I'll definitely ask the mechanic about that. It's good to see you're back on the road without troubles. Thanks, appreciate all the help! Keep those gear turning and until next time. Cheers!
