Seeking Advice for Suspected Battery Issues in a 2011 Lexus LFA with a Gasoline Engine

Hey all, I've got a 2011 Lexus LFA with a Gasoline engine that's been giving me some trouble lately. I've been noticing a weak battery at startup and also some dim and flickering lights. I suspect there might be an issue with the additional battery, but I could really use some pointers from you guys who've had similar issues. Can anyone share some troubleshooting tips or experiences you had when getting this fixed at your workshop? Would really appreciate your input!

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Lexus LFA with a gasoline engine is experiencing weak battery performance at startup and dim, flickering lights. The suspected issue might be related to the additional battery, but it could also involve the alternator or charging system, especially given the car's age and mileage. Suggested solutions include checking and possibly replacing the battery, inspecting the alternator belt, and evaluating the overall charging system to address these symptoms effectively.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 2013 Lexus IS F. I'd rate my car knowledge as having some experience. When this happened, I took it to my usual garage. The guy checked it out and turns out, my battery was defective. He replaced it, and it cost me a neat 290€. It helped to fix the issue. To truly understand what could be happening with your LFA though, more info would be helpful. What's the mileage? When was the last time you replaced your battery?

Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience. My LFA has clocked around 108206 KM till now. Come to think of it, the battery hasn't been replaced since the last service, so it could be an age thing. I'm thinking I need to take it to the workshop and get it checked. The flickering lights part, though, is causing me a bit more concern.

Hey again! Yea, flickering lights doesn’t sit right with me either. I experienced a flickering problem myself one time with my IS F and it was due to a worn alternator belt. It was not expensive to have replaced. However, with a car like the Lexus LFA, it could also be a sign of a problem with the charging system, which might involve some serious fixes. So, given the age and mileage on your car, it'd be best to get your alternator and charging system checked along with the battery. Also, if you've not replaced your battery since the last service and the car has done over 108206 KM, it could be about that time for a new battery as well. Keep me posted, man! I hope it's nothing too serious.

Hey, thanks for the advice! Now that you mention the alternator belt and charging system, it does make a lot of sense. The car's clocking in the years and miles, and seems like it might be time for these replacements. I'm going to schedule a visit to the workshop soon and have them check everything you mentioned. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious like you said! I'll definitely keep you posted on how it goes, and really appreciate your help and advice!
