Seeking Advice for Persistent Issues with 2014 Hyundai Xcent Diesel

Pre-glow light won't turn off

DPF regeneration failure

Longer cold start time

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey! I've got a 2014 Hyundai Xcent diesel that's clocked 101,706 KM and I've begun to notice some troubling symptoms. My check engine light has been persistent, there's black smoke puffing out whenever I rev up, cold start is taking longer than usual, DPF regeneration is failing, and the pre-glow light won't turn off. I've tried figuring out what's wrong and my best guess is a wacky glow plug. Had a pretty rough experience with my last mechanic visit and I'm wary of another misdiagnosis. Wondering if any of you have battled the same issues? What did your mechanic tell you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers

Hey! Your symptoms really ring a bell. I just had the same sort of issues with my 2011 Hyundai i30 diesel a while back. The check engine light was always on, loads of black smoke popping out, and my DPF was a total nightmare as well. Turns out, I was facing a defective wiring harness from the glow control unit to the engine control unit. First, I thought it was only the glow plug acting up but nope, it was this whole mess. It's a bit of a tricky business to fix effectively. It was necessary to modify and rewire the harness and additionally, to recalibrate the engine control unit to recognise the modifications. Not a job for a regular mechanic. Don't mean to scare you here, but it's better to know the beast you're dealing with, right? Just get it checked by a capable and reliable mechanic. And make sure you keep your maintenance up to date. That's the best advice I can give you. All the best! Cheers.

Hey there! Wow, your experience has got me thinking. Funny enough, my 2013 Hyundai Xcent diesel has shown similar symptoms recently. The check engine light has been my new unwanted and the back-end seems to have a smoking addiction. I've barely got two cups of coffee in me before cold start decides to work. So, you said it was the wiring harness, huh? Just curious, are you able to recall how much that whole process put you back? And have any other problems happened since the fix? Just trying to prepare myself for what's to come. Thanks for the advice, though. Time to find a mechanic that knows their stuff. Our Hyundai babies deserve the best, right? Cheers!

Hey! I can totally relate to your anticipation. After sorting out my Hyundai i30, I thought I should prepare you for the deal. It wasn't a light haul on the wallet let me tell you that, fixing and rewiring the wiring harness from the glow control unit to the engine control unit racked me a hefty bill of 395.00 €. Sounds a touch over the top, I know, but well...it had to be done. On a brighter note, though, since taking care of the malfunctioning glow plug issue, the car's been behaving like a gem. No more unpleasant surprises or unwelcome problems so far. Just remember, it ain't gonna get sorted by a regular grease monkey, you'll need someone skilled with this kind of stuff. We need to pamper our Hyundai babies every now and then, right? Cheers!

Hey there, Thank you both for sharing your experiences and the advice. Can't believe I'm facing the same hefty bill, €395.00 seems quite steep for a fix but, if it brings back the old days where the Xcent was driving like a dream, then it'll be worth it. I've got a skilled mechanic in mind who I trust and feel comfortable with. It seems I've got my work cut out, searching for a trustworthy garage who can handle the intricate work. Let's hope my Hyundai baby can be cured soon. Thanks again for your help guys, appreciate it! Cheers.
