Seeking Advice for Persistent Exhaust Issues and Power Loss on 2013 Nissan Cima

Check engine light on

Exhaust leak

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey folks, I got a 2013 Nissan Cima with a gas engine, around 156.552K kilometers on her. The old girl's been acting up lately - check engine light won't go off, she's losing power, and there's a noticeable exhaust leak. Not to mention a strong exhaust fumes smell and black smoke puffing out during acceleration - I'm thinking something's wonky with the exhaust aftertreatment. Last time I went to my mechanic, it didn't turn out well, so I'm looking for some advice from those who've dealt with something similar. What was your experience like with your own mechanic? Any advice or suggestions? Thanks a ton!

Hey, So, I had a very similar issue with my 2010 Nissan Fuga not long ago. The old boy was showing similar symptoms - stubborn check engine light, exhaust leaking, power loss, you name it. After taking it to my trusty local garage, they traced down the culprit - a faulty lambda sensor. Just like you, I was worried it was some serious exhaust system problem, but turns out these symptoms can be caused by a bad lambda sensor too. It's a vital component that monitors the level of oxygen in the car's exhaust gases to regulate the air-fuel mixture for combustion. If it's faulty, it can mess up the car's mixture, causing power losses, increased emissions, and the other issues we both experienced. Replacing the sensor made a world of difference - the car's power returned to normal, the unusual smoke stopped, and the terrifying check engine light finally went off. So, it's an important thing to consider. Hope this helps! Safe driving!

Hey there, Thanks for the heads up! Reading your explanation, it's starting to seems like lambda sensors are a common troublemaker. From your description, I definitely need to get this checked out - otherwise, my Cima might turn into a smoky barbecue, we all don't want that. Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much this repair set you back? Also, has there been anything else that you've had to deal with since fixing the lambda sensor? It seems like older Nissan's are prone to have one thing go after another. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, You're not wrong about those sneaky lambda sensors causing havoc! As for the cost, fixing the naughty lambda sensor on my Fuga ran me up about 375€. I know, a little pinch on the pocket, but well worth it to get the old beast back on track. As for any other issues, you'll be glad to know it's been plain sailing since replacing the sensor. That pesky exhaust aftertreatment malfunction I was worried about got sorted out when the lambda sensor was fixed. You've really got to hand it to these old Nissan's! Remember, better safe than sorry. It's always wise to nip these things in the bud before they escalate. Keep 'er healthy, keep 'er happy! Safe travels!

Hey, that's a relief to hear! Your input certainly gave me some peace of mind. I'm pretty sure now that it's the lambda sensor. It might be pricey, but hey, any penny spent to keep the ol' girl running smoothly is well worth it. I'll book her in for a service - better sort it out sooner rather than later. Really appreciate the advice, feeling a lot better about the situation now. Cheers and safe driving to you too!
