Seeking Advice for Overheating and Check Engine Light Issue on '02 Hyundai Atos

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my '02 Hyundai Atos. It's overheating like crazy and the check engine light is on. I'm guessing it could be an issue with the auxiliary coolant pump, but wanted to hear from you all. Has anybody else faced something similar with their Atos or another car with a gasoline engine? Any advice on troubleshooting this or experiences from your visit to the workshop would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, had a similar issue with my '00 Hyundai Accent, so almost the same deal. I'm no expert, just got some experience from my own car stuff. Went to my local garage, turns out it was a Cable connection defective problem. Had to shell out about 170 Euro to get it fixed, which wasn't too bad. It might be a different issue with your Atos, though. Can you provide more details like mileage, any recent repairs or changes to the car? This could help in figuring out your issue better.

Hey, thanks for the response! Yeah, the problem really got me scratching my head here. So, my Atos has run like 121475 km so far. Had the last service about 3 months back and they didn't mention anything about potential issues with the cooling system. But now, out of the blue, it's turned into a sauna. I'm hoping it's nothing too serious and won't burn a hole in my pocket, fingers crossed.

Hey, sounds like a bit of a pickle you're in! I feel you. Here's the thing, my Accent was about at the same mileage when it started throwing fits. Considering the age, sometimes even a minor issue can trigger a check engine light. Now, it might be a good idea to check on the coolant level, inspect the radiator hoses, and look for any visible leaks around the engine area, before jumping into conclusions. Just a suggestion, if there's no evident issue from your side, maybe grab a OBD2 scanner and try to pull the engine error codes. This could very well point out the source of the trouble. That's how I figured out the cable connection issue in my Accent. I was inclined towards a thermostat malfunction initially, but the codes told a different story. Though a faulty auxiliary coolant pump can also cause overheating, the engine light might not be due to it. So, stay calm and start with the basics. You don't want to spend a fortune troubleshooting the wrong parts. And keep us updated on your progress!

Hey, some solid advice there. I'll start with your suggestions by checking the coolant level and all that jazz. Fingers crossed it's nothing too complicated! Getting an OBD scanner sounds like a smart move too, might just save me a headache! Thanks for the guidance, I'll definitely keep you guys in the loop. Let's hope my Atos can weather this storm, right? Cheers!
