Hi, thanks for your reply! It's really annoying when the car is causing problems. I have indeed done some maintenance on my Passat, like replacing spark plugs and oil filter. Other than that, the car was working fine until these smoke and performance issues occurred. I've done a bit of research and waste gate valve does sound like a possible cause. Would that explain the loss of power and the other symptoms? I'm also wondering if there are other parts I might want to replace while I'm at it? After all, I don't want the problem to happen again. I will take your advice and take the car to my garage and describe the problem in detail. Do you estimate that the cost of the repair could be similar to your case? Thanks again!

Hi there, I had a very similar problem with my old Opel. It really sounds like a malfunction in the boost pressure system, as the symptoms fit exactly. At my garage, they first checked the car thoroughly and read out the error code after the engine control light came on. In my case, it was ultimately the turbocharger that was faulty. However, it could also be the boost pressure sensor, if it is measuring the wrong pressure, this also leads to a loss of power and uneven running. Or the vacuum lines are leaking, in which case the turbo cannot do its job properly either. In your case, it could also explain the hissing and whistling, because air is escaping somewhere that should actually be in the turbocharger. The repair will of course depend on what is broken. If a new turbocharger is due, it can cost a lot of money. In my case, it was well over 1000 euros. But that doesn't necessarily have to be the case for you. The best thing to do is to go to the garage and have the fault memory read out. Take courage, it'll work out! You can do it, buddy!

Hi, thanks for the tip! Yes, I did indeed consider that it could be the turbocharger, but your explanation sounds very logical. I really hope it's just a leak, otherwise it's going to be expensive. I will follow your advice and have the fault memory read out at the garage. I hope that it will then be clearer what the problem is. Thank you for your support! I feel a little relieved now and hope that everything will be okay.

Hey Markus that sounds a lot like your charge air system is leaking. I had the same problem with my diesel. I went to my trusted mechanic and he checked my charge air system with the help of a smoke device. Lo and behold, it was just a charge air hose that had been bitten by a marten. I hope it's only a minor problem for you too.

BMW 530 D MSport 2018 Feels like a very slight judder on hard acceleration not bad but definitely there.
This could be due to a number of issues, such as a problem with the fuel injection system, a worn-out spark plug, or a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor. I would recommend starting with the simplest checks first, like inspecting the spark plugs and replacing them if necessary. If the problem persists, it would be best to have a mechanic perform a diagnostic test to identify the exact cause. Please keep us updated on your progress.

I don't have any problems with the warning lights or engine operation, but black smoke appears at the start of acceleration.
Black smoke at the start of acceleration usually indicates a rich fuel mixture, meaning your engine might be getting more fuel than it needs. This could be due to a faulty fuel injector, a clogged air filter, or a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor. Start by checking your air filter and replace it if it's dirty. If the problem persists, you may need to have a mechanic inspect the fuel system. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2010 VW Golf Diesel. I'm not a mechanic, but I was able to identify a defect in the waste gate valve as the problem. But it was too complicated for me, so I had it repaired at my garage and it cost me 860 euros. It sounds very similar with your car. It helped me to take the car to a trustworthy garage and describe the problem in detail. It may be the waste gate valve in your case, but it could also be something else. It would be helpful if you could provide more information about the vehicle, e.g. whether you have made any modifications or carried out any work on the car. Hope this helps you and keep your fingers crossed that the repair won't be too expensive!
