Seeking Advice for Check Engine Light, Power Loss, and DPF Regeneration Issues in 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

DPF regeneration failure

Hey folks, I've got a 2021 Renault Arkana hybrid here with about 194k on the clock, been having a few issues lately and I'm looking for advice. The darn check engine light is on, it's lost power like nobody's business and the DPF regeneration is throwing a fit. Oh, and there is this potent exhaust smell too. I'm thinking it's all down to a dodgy exhaust gas temp sensor. Last time I relied on my mechanic, well, let's just say it wasn't a fun time. So I'm wondering, has anyone had a similar engine issue with their Arkana or any hybrid for that matter? What happened when you took yours in for repair? Trying to avoid any surprises at the garage this time. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I can totally relate to what you're going through. I've got a 2018 Renault Megane and faced a similar situation nearly a year back. My car was acting all weird, losing power, an offbeat exhaust sound, and the stench you mentioned. Took it to my local garage as it was a major concern. The problem turned out to be exhaust system leaks indeed, just like you suspected. They had to replace the exhaust gas temperature sensor along with some other minor related fixes. Took them a fair bit of time to fix it because they had to ensure the new sensor was working perfectly and there weren't any residual issues. Be prepared for a bit of a haul and make sure they check everything thoroughly. The last thing you want is another trip to the garage! Hope this helps and it all goes smoothly for you. Take care!

Hey! Really appreciate you sharing your own trials & tribulations here, gives me a few ideas for my Arkana. So, just to clarify, am I right in thinking your fix was primarily down to a dodgy exhaust gas temperature sensor? Also, I gotta ask, do you recall roughly how much this all set you back? It's always good to know what I'm potentially diving into, financial surprise attacks aren't really my thing! And since that fix, has anything else come up that I should keep my eyes peeled for? Thanks so much for the advice!

Hey! No worries, happy to share my experiences if it helps you out. You're spot on - the primary culprit was indeed the exhaust gas temperature sensor. After it was replaced, the car was back to its old self. About the financial part, it did leave a nice hole in my wallet! Fixing those exhaust system leaks, especially the sensor, cost me around 265 euro. But hey, don't let it stress you, its way better than the alternative of a broken-down car! The mechanic assured me all the problems were solved and I'm happy to report that no other issues have popped up since. Just make sure to have a thorough check of those exhausts when your Arkana is with the mechanic. Hopefully, you'll be set for a good while and won't have any other nasty surprises. Best of luck with the repair! Keep us posted!

Cheers for the information! That gives me a bit of an idea about what I'm walking into, both mechanically and financially. To be honest, hearing the price stung a little, but I agree, it's definitely better than having my Arkana out of commission. I'll make sure I get the mechanic to really go through those exhausts as per your advice. The last thing I want is another issue cropping up right after this one's fixed. Fingers crossed it all pans out smoothly. Thanks again for your help, really appreciate it. Will keep you updated on how it all unfolds. Take care!
