Exhaust leak

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I need some help with my 2010 Toyota IQ, Gasoline. Been seeing black smoke when I hit the gas, the check engine light came on, and it's been losing power recently. Plus, got an exhaust leak and it smells pretty strong. My hunch is that it's something up with the exhaust aftertreatment. Any experience dealing with this issue out there? How did you manage to fix it at your workshop? Appreciate any tips or insights, as I'm trying to pinpoint the issue and the best solution. Cheers!

Hey there, I had a bang-on similar issue with my 2008 Toyota Aygo, so I guess we're on the same boat! I'm not a car guru, but I do have some experience working on cars. Reading the signs you are giving, it does ting that buzzer in my mind about a potential issue with the lambda sensor, which is a part of your exhaust aftertreatment system. I had a rough time diagnosing this, but my workshop eventually confirmed one of the lambda sensors was defective on my Aygo. It cost me around 375 Euro to have it sorted. The after effects? No more black smoke, engine light turned off, and power loss handled. Mind you, this is how it was in my case! I do recommend getting your car to a good garage for a full check-up. These issues can crawl out in different forms with different models. It'd help if I had a bit more information about your car's condition, mileage, how often it's serviced and such. Get it checked and keep your fingers crossed it's not something more expensive! Best of luck! Drive safe.

Hey! Appreciate the tip! Interesting about the lambda sensor, I wouldn't have guessed that. My IQ has clocked about 89515 KM so far and got it serviced roughly a year back. I'll definitely get my car checked at a reliable workshop, also would ask them to focus on lambda sensor. Hoping it won't burn a hole in my pocket. Fingers crossed! Thanks again for the advice, very helpful! Drive safe too. Cheers!

Hey Bud, Glad my advice gave you some direction! Yeah, these euroboxes can be finicky at times, and the lambda sensor is one of those parts that can really mess with your ride. With your car's mileage, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on components like this. Just a timely check can save you from hefty future repairs. Ideal to see that you're taking it to your workshop. I can't say for sure how much it will run you, but in my case, it was worth every penny to get rid of the issues. Again, I can't stress enough, explain the symptoms in detail to your mechanic. The more data they have to go on, the easier it's for them to pinpoint the problem and nip it in the bud. I hope theyage to sort it out nice and easy for you! Good luck there! Stay on top of it. Keep us posted. Safe driving, as always!

Hey Bud, I can't thank you enough! Your advice sounded like music to my ears, just the kind of direction I needed. I'll make sure I scribble down every tiny little issue I've been facing and discuss it in detail with the mechanic. I'm all prepared to get that lambda sensor checked and fingers crossed, it's a straightforward fix. Sure, I'll get back here and share my saga so it can hopefully help others down the line. Thanks a ton for your well wishes. Safe and sound driving to you too! Cheers!
