Seeking Advice for a Potential Windshield Wiper Relay Issue in a 2016 Hyundai H1 Gasoline

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Fault stored

Wipers don't work properly

Hey all, I've got a quirky issue with my 2016 Hyundai H1, Gasoline version. Recently, my wipers have been misbehaving, there's some fault stored and on top of it, a warning light keeps popping on the speedometer. I'm suspecting it might be a glitchy windshield wiper relay, but not totally sure about it. Have any of you guys faced a similar issue? If yes, how did your workshop handle it and what were your overall experiences? Looking forward to some practical tips and insights. Cheers!

Hey, had a similar weird issue with my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. Trust me, I'm not a mechanic (low experience, if you catch my drift) but I'm quite acquainted with what happened to my wheels. Turns out, it was actually a Cable connection defective situation for me. Cost me about €155 to get it sorted out at my local garage. Not so much of a hassle, though. Oh, and the relay issue you mentioned, still a possibility, so get it checked. Would you mind sharing more about the symptoms your car is experiencing? I could then match them against what happened with mine and maybe I can give more specific advice. Cheers!

Hey there, thanks for the tip! Well to detail out a bit more, the wipers whip into action on their own without me even triggering them. Quite a strange sight I'll tell you, almost feels eerie. And the indicator for wiper malfunction pops up every now and then. My Hyundai's only got about 9685 km on it and had its latest service just a while ago, strange that these issues are surfacing now. I’ll now definitely add checking the cable connections to my list alongside the relay test. Appreciate your help! Cheers!

Hey, no problem at all! It's indeed quite weird, but it's getting clear now - especially with them running on their own. That sounds familiar; my Santa Fe did just the same trick. When mine acted up, there was a wiper control module included in the repair. This fits with your symptoms cause the module is what interprets the signals from the wiper switch. Hence, a malfunction may cause the wipers to start "ghost wiping." And just for your peace of mind, the mileage or age of a car rarely affects these types of electric issues. Complex electronics, ain't always reliable, so don’t get too hung up on why it's happening now. Cost-wise, mine was around €200 with labor charges. Your local garage could narrow down the source and provide a more accurate quote. And if it is a faulty module, it's usually a swift fix. Well, at least in my case. Hope this gives you a clearer direction. Good luck and keep us posted! Cheers!

Wow your diagnosis seems spot on with the "ghost wiping". Now that I have an idea where to start with, it doesn't seem nearly as horrifying. It's also somewhat comforting to know these issues don't necessarily link with the vehicle's mileage or its age. I'll get in touch with the garage and ask them to specifically look into the wiper control module and the related wirings. Guess it'll be just fine with a switch fix or a few replaced cables. I really appreciate your input and guidance. Will certainly keep you updated on how it goes. Cheers and take care!
