Seeking Advice for 2020 Fiat Tipo Fuel Pressure Sensor Issues and Other Engine Problems
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2020 Fiat Tipo experiencing issues such as black smoke, a lit check engine light, delayed cold starts, power loss, jerking during acceleration, poor gas mileage, and a strong exhaust smell. The initial suspicion is a faulty fuel pressure sensor. Suggestions include checking cable connections, replacing the fuel filter, and inspecting the mass airflow sensor, as these could also contribute to the symptoms. The plan is to address these potential issues and consult a garage for further diagnosis.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! About the service history, my Fiat had its last service at 48073 km. I haven't changed the fuel filter since then. As for the petrol station, I've been using the same one for a while without any problems, so I don't think that's the issue. Thanks for the tip; I'll definitely have a look at the cable connections myself and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll pay a visit to the garage. Cheers!

No worries! Checking the cable connections is definitely a smart first move. Since your fuel filter hasn't been changed since the last service, that might be another thing to check. Granted, it's not always the culprit but having a dirty fuel filter may cause some of the issues you mentioned like poor fuel economy and loss of engine power. Ideally, the fuel filter should be replaced every 40k to 80k km, depending on the make and model of your car - in your case, a 2020 Fiat Tipo. Another thing to consider is whether your vehicle might have a faulty mass airflow sensor. When this goes bad, it can result in black smoke from the exhaust and other problems. Just throwing it out there from personal experience with my Fiat. Lastly, don't rule out that fuel pressure sensor yet. Your hunch could still be right, especially given the symptoms. Let us know the results after your visit to the garage. We'll be here to help however we can! Drive safe.

Thanks for the additional insight! I had no idea that a dirty fuel filter could cause such a chain reaction in the car's performance. Also, I haven't thought about the mass airflow sensor before; seems like another potential culprit. I'll make sure to get these checked out, and will also bring up the fuel pressure sensor when I visit the garage. I'll update you guys once it's sorted. You've been a great help. Cheers and safe driving to you too!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2018 Fiat Panda, petrol engine too. Can't say I'm an auto expert but had some experience tinkering with the basics. Took it to my local garage, a team of whom I trust with my car. Turns out, my issue was with the defective cable connections. I got it fixed and shelled out 155 Euro for the fix. To help you further, can you tell me more about your service history? Like when was the last time you serviced your car or changed the fuel filter? Also, have you been noticing this issue after using a particular petrol station? Might not be a cause, but good to rule out some factors. Anyway, fixing the cable connection might just solve your issue, worth a shot!
