Seeking Advice for 2019 Kia Optima Engine Issues and Potential Faulty Water Sensor

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Car won't start

Engine shuts off by itself

Hey! I've got a bit of a puzzler with my 2019 Kia Optima with a gas engine. Lately, it's not starting properly, the engine out of nowhere dies, and a warning light pops up on my speedo. I've got a hunch that it could be due to a faulty water sensor, but I'd really appreciate any other insights or similar experiences you guys might have faced. Anyone who's had this repaired at a workshop, could you share what they did and how it went? Looking forward to solving this mystery. Thanks!

Hey there. Sounds like a familiar issue. I had the same problem pop up on my 2017 Kia Cadenza not too long back. Mind you, I've only got some level of car experience, but growing up around cars lets you pick up a thing or two. Took it to my local workshop - good, trustworthy blokes, they are. The mechanic there discovered it was actually the sensor cable connection throwing a wobbly, not the sensor itself. Cost me about 365 Euro, bit of a sting on the wallet, that was, but better than a dead car, right? If you can, try to provide me more details about your car, like its mileage or specific warning light. It could potentially help diagnose your issue more accurately. Cheers!

Thanks for the quick reply. It's reassuring to hear from someone who faced the same craziness! So, my good old Optima has clocked up around 69960 clicks, and I last gave her a full service just a few months back. The warning light that pops up looks more like a thermometer, which had me thinking about the water sensor. Your advice about the sensor cable connection is super helpful, I reckon I'll give it a check myself before heading to the garage. Thanks again and cheers!

Hey again. Ah, her having around 69960 clicks on the dial could potentially be the cause. These cars have their little quirks around the 70k mark. That thermometer warning light you mentioned definitely has something to do with the coolant system - could be an improper coolant mixture, a stuck thermostat, or, like you initially thought, the water sensor continuity but considering my previous experience, I wouldn't brush off the sensor cable connection just yet. Before you take her to the garage, give the coolant system a once-over. If the coolant looks in desperate need of a change, that might just save you a trip and a few quid! But remember, if you're not sure, it's always better taking her into a professional. Don't want to risk making things worse with our loveable but sometimes finicky machines, right? Keep us updated. I'm curious to see what the culprit is! Best of luck! Cheers!

Good day again. Can't thank you enough for that brilliant advice. I did poke around the coolant system today, and you won't believe it - the coolant did look a bit funky and past its prime, so the guesswork you did there is spot on. Gonna change that first and see if it solves the snag. You're absolutely right, though, I won't push my luck too far and would take her to professionals if the problem lingers. Sure thing, I'll keep you posted! Appreciate all your help. Cheers!
