Thanks for the input! My Porter has run about 70,872 km. The last service was only a couple of months ago - they didn't mention anything about a DPF issue, so it's kind of blindsided me. Looks like I'll need to dig a bit deeper into this. I'll take it to my usual mechanic, see what he says. Hoping it won't cost an arm and a leg!+
Hey again! Well, based on the mileage, there's a good chance it's the DPF. They say a well-maintained diesel car's DPF should last around 100,000 km but it can fail earlier depending on many variables. I'd suggest emphasizing your DPF concerns when taking it to your mechanic. Remember, sometimes a good cleaning might just bring it back to life. However, if you continually notice the black smoke after trying that, it's probably a sign that a replacement is in order. Unfortunately, it's not a cheap fix, but as I experienced with my Starex, letting it go unfixed just makes it worse. Best of luck with it. Keep me posted how it goes!
Thanks for the detailed advice, really appreciate it! The 100,000 km lifetime is a good benchmark, never knew that. I'll definitely stress on the DPF with my mechanic, and if it comes to a cleaning or replacement, so be it. Can't ignore these signs, right? As they say, "A stitch in time saves nine". I'll keep you updated. Cheers!
Hey! I'd say I have some experience with cars. Recently I had a similar issue with my 2012 Hyundai Starex CRDI. Our symptoms were almost identical, only it was the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that was defective due to the car’s high mileage. I took it to a trusted local workshop, where they diagnosed the problem, the DPF wasn't properly burning off the soot particles. We ended up replacing the DPF entirely which admittedly was a bit costly, around 1550 Euro, but it solved the problem - black smoke and all. Without knowing more about your vehicle, like its mileage and maintenance history, it's hard to say if that's the exact issue. But it's something you'd want to check. Stay patient, and hopefully, you’ll get it sorted out soon!
