Seeking Advice for 2014 Dacia Sandero Power Loss, Engine Issues, and Reduced Fuel Economy Suspected to Be Crankcase Ventilation Problem

Unsteady engine

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Hey! I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2014 Dacia Sandero with a Gas engine. Recently, it's been acting up - the check engine light's on, it's constantly losing power, sometimes the engine even cuts out all on its own. It's also jerking during acceleration, shakes when idling, and my fuel economy has gone down the drain. I think it might be a crankcase ventilation issue, but I could use some advice. Anyone else had similar issues and got it fixed? I'm all ears for your workshop stories and any tips you might have. Any help would be super appreciated!

Hey there, Weirdly enough, I had a very similar issue with my 2012 Dacia Duster just a couple of years back. Can't say I'm a car whisperer or anything, but I'd say my car insight fits somewhere between "low experience" and "some experience" on the scale. At the time, my Duster also acted up in a similar way. After quite a few attempts of trying to diagnose the issue myself (spoiler alert: epic fail), I finally bit the bullet and took the old girl to a professional workshop. They diagnosed the problem as a defective crankcase ventilation, much like your guess. Getting the matter fixed cost me 360 Euro, but the peace of mind was worth every penny. The guys at the workshop said that the irregularities in the idle and acceleration, as well as the engine cutting out, were actually due to this crankcase ventilation fault. Lesson learned: when in doubt, consult the pros! Could you give more info about your car's mileage, maintenance history, and the geographical area where you live? This would help me better understand the problem and offer more tailored advice.

Hey! Thanks for the info! It's a relief to hear that someone else had a similar issue and got it fixed. My Sandero racks up around 133634 KM on the odometer so far, and I rigorously kept up with the manufacturers recommended service schedule. The last service was just a couple of months ago. Living in the hilly areas means lots of ups, and downs; maybe that's tough on the engine over time? Hope this info helps you to give a bit more insight!

Hey again, Glad the info was helpful. Your Sandero has a good chunk of miles on it, but it's obviously been looked after well. Given the terrain you're driving on, it's not impossible that the additional load these ups and downs put on your engine might have contributed somehow, though I'd expect a well-maintained engine to handle it. That said, back to the crankcase ventilation we discussed earlier. The symptoms do line up pretty well. Based on my own experience, and taking into account the mileage and usage of your vehicle, replacing the crankcase ventilation should totally be a reasonable way to go and it might just solve your problem (fingers crossed!). Just remember this isn't a definitive diagnosis - just what seems likeliest based on what you described. Always best to get professional help if you're unsure. And depending on how handy you are, take into consideration if you'd like to try out the DIY path or prefer to get the job done at a workshop. Hope your Dacia will be up and well soon! Quick fix vibes coming your way.

Hey! You've been amazingly helpful and your advice makes a lot of sense - you've made the issue feel more manageable. If it's anything like what you experienced it seems like replacing the crankcase ventilation could be the way forward. I'm not much of a handyman, if I'm honest, so hitting up the workshop will be the first thing on my schedule. Your quick fix vibes are much needed - hopefully, the old girl will be purring smoothly again soon. I'll keep you posted! Cheers for the help. Fingers crossed!
