Jerking on acceleration

Hey everyone, I've been facing some odd issues with my 2012 Fiat Scudo on a gas engine lately. The check engine light's on, it's losing power, and the engine isn’t steady. The car's jerking when accelerating, stalls at idle, and also shakes while idling. I've been suspecting the issue could be with the tank vent system but I’m not totally sure yet. Anyone ever experienced something similar? Really curious about any insights, especially how you got it fixed up in the shop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, so I'm not exactly a mechanic but have some experience dealing with car issues. I owned a 2010 Fiat Punto which had a similar problem. That jerking motion while accelerating and the shaky idle could be caused by a number of things, but in my case, it turned out to be an issue with the hoses. I took my car to a local workshop, where the mechanic checked things over. Together, we concluded that the hoses needed replacing. It cost me about €175, but it sorted things out. I hate to say it, but you might be looking at the same kind of expense. Just curious, when was the last time you checked your hoses or got them replaced? You also might want to get your check engine light code read to narrow down the problem. Could you share that info, or any other relevant details? It might help us understand your problem a bit better.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. You made me realise that I haven't checked the hoses for quite some time now. You're right, the check engine code could definitely help pinpoint the issue. I'll get them scanned asap. To answer your question, I just had my Fiat serviced at 258475 KM, but I didn't ask for any hose specific checks then. I really hope it's not too pricey to fix. I suppose time will tell!

Hi there, glad I could provide some insights! Yeah, it sounds like it’s about time to give those hoses a look. Nothing lasts forever, after all! Also, it’s good to hear that you're gonna get that engine code checked out. It might give you some direction regarding what's wrong. In relation to service, yeah, it's not always the case they'd check the hoses specifically, unless you ask them to. In my situation with the Fiat, it wasn't until I started noticing these signs and specifically brought it up at my workshop that they focused on them. As for the cost, well, you already know my case. It’s really just a matter of what services your car needs and where you decide to get it done. Each workshop can vary slightly in their costs. But hopefully it's just the hoses and nothing major. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Thanks again for the advice! It's definitely sounding more and more like a hose issue as we talk about it. I'll make sure to mention the hoses and error codes to the mechanic upfront. And yeah, I'll prepare myself for a hit to the wallet, but hopefully nothing too dramatic. Will update all of you as soon as I can. Cheers for the help!
