Seeking Advice and Experiences on Dealing with Battery Drain and Flickering Lights in 2011 Volvo XC60 Diesel

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey folks, I've got a bit of a puzzler with my 2011 Volvo XC60 Diesel. Lately, she's been having a tough time starting - seems like the battery's nearly drained each time. Also, I've noticed the lights are dimming and flickering. My best guess is that the battery might be seriously discharging on its own. Anybody ever dealt with this? What do you reckon the issue could be, and what was your experience getting this sorted out at the garage? Cheers for any tips or stories!

Hey, I had a similar pickle with my 2009 Volvo XC70. I'm no certified mechanic, but I tinker here and there - call it low-level car experience. My battery drain turned out to be a defective battery sensor. Took it to my go-to garage, and they sorted it out for 315 Euro. Just curious, had any electrical upgrades or recent services done on your XC60? That might help narrow it down a bit more. Cheers!

Hey there, thanks for the quick reply! My XC60's last service was at 198374 KM, no major electrical upgrades recently, though. I'll definitely mention the battery sensor to my mechanic, really appreciate the info. It's a bit steep, but if it gets my ride back on track, it's worth it. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem at all, happy to help! I can totally relate to the situation, the ride's gotta be right, right? So since no electrical work was done recently, I'll stick with the battery or sensor theory. Not an everyday issue, but I've heard of it happening on several Volvo models, not just our XC's. Favorably, it's a one-time fix, albeit a bit pricey. But hey, at least it beats being stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat battery. Fingers crossed your problem gets sorted out shortly! Cheers.

Absolutely, you hit the nail on the head there! I'll take a pricey fix over being stuck on some country road any day. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with this. Reading it, I'm fairly convinced it's a battery or sensor issue as well. Fingers crossed the garage can sort this quickly. Cheers for your help!
