In my case, the engine control unit was actually faulty. The first thing they did in the workshop was to read out the fault memory and identify the defective control unit. It had to be replaced and reprogrammed. This was a serious matter, as the control unit controls many functions in the engine. After the replacement, my car ran perfectly again. Hey, sure, I still remember it well! The replacement and programming of the engine control unit cost me a total of €1000. It wasn't cheap, but it was definitely worth it. Since then, my Ateca has been running absolutely smoothly again and I haven't had any more problems. The defective ignition coil or misfiring were also fixed after they replaced the engine control unit. Presumably it was all connected. Keep your fingers crossed that it goes just as smoothly for you!
