Seat Tarraco problems with the engine when cold

Shaking while idling

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey guys, I'm a bit desperate with my 2018 Seat Tarraco (petrol) and approx. 87,654 km on the clock. I have problems with: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, check engine light, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating, often doesn't start at all, poor fuel consumption, engine stalls at idle, and it vibrates when idling. Could this be due to defective ignition coils or misfiring? Unfortunately, my last visit to the mechanic was not a good experience. How was your experience with similar problems? What did your mechanics do? Thanks in advance! LG

Hey, I drive a 2017 Seat Ateca and had similar symptoms: black smoke from the exhaust, check engine light, loss of power and rough engine running. In my case, the engine control unit was actually faulty. The first thing they did in the workshop was to read out the fault memory and identify the defective control unit. It had to be replaced and reprogrammed. This was a serious matter, as the control unit controls many functions in the engine. After the replacement, my car ran perfectly again. Sounds very similar to you - check the engine control unit. Good luck! Greetings

Hey, thanks for the info! That does sound very similar to my problems. Do you happen to remember how much it cost to replace the engine control unit? And have you noticed anything else since then or is your Ateca running smoothly again? Kind regards

Hey, sure, I still remember it well! The replacement and programming of the engine control unit cost me a total of €1000. It wasn't cheap, but it was definitely worth it. Since then, my Ateca has been running absolutely smoothly again and I haven't had any more problems. The defective ignition coil or misfiring were also fixed after they replaced the engine control unit. Presumably it was all connected. Keep your fingers crossed that it goes just as smoothly for you! Kind regards

Hey guys, thanks for all the info! That really helps me. I'll probably have the fault memory read out next and have the engine control unit checked. I'm really curious to see if that's the solution to my problem. My last visit to the mechanic was a disaster. He tried several things, but nothing really solved the problem and in the end I just ended up wasting a lot of money. So I hope it goes better this time. Thank you again for your support. I'll keep you posted on how things go. Kind regards
