Seat Tarraco 2021 Gas Model Experiencing Engine Issues, Possible Throttle Valve Potentiometer Malfunction

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Poor fuel economy

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Hey there fellow gearheads! I've got a 2021 Seat Tarraco, running on gas, clocking about 161.5k km. Recently, the old girl's been acting up. I mean, the engine's been more mercurial than my ex, shutting off by itself and losing power. She is jerky on acceleration and burns more fuel than a teenage boy eating pizza. Oh, and the darn 'Check Engine' light keeps winking at me. I've had an unpleasant run-in with a swindler of a mechanic before, so you could say I'm a bit hesitant to hand her over to just anyone. I kinda think it could be an issue with the Throttle valve potentiometer but I'm not sure. Any of you guys ever had a similar experience? Or have an idea on how much such a repair usually costs? Hit me up. I appreciate it!

Hey there! I can totally relate to your situation! I got a 2018 Seat Ateca and experienced pretty much the exact problems a while back. You're right on the money about the throttle valve dilemma. In my case, it turned out the internal mechanics of the throttle valve were indeed cooked. Yep, gotta admit it was a bit of a serious problem. It was behaving like a roller coaster, idling poorly, super unpredictable on acceleration and chugging down the gas. Saw that 'Check Engine' light a bit too often as well. The only option was a full throttle body replacement. Wasn't a fun day at the garage to be honest but it did fix all the symptoms you mentioned. Just make sure to find a good mechanic you trust to have a look at it. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the advice! Sounds like we had a twin situation with our Seats, right down to the roller coaster ride! Good to know I wasn't seeing ghosts with the throttle valve issue. But, a full throttle body replacement, that sounds heavy. Do you remember how much you had to part with to have that settled? And has anything else given you grief since or was that it? Thanks again for your help, much appreciated!

Hey, no worries, happy to help a fellow car lover! Yeah, dealing with the throttle valve issue did make my wallet a tad lighter but thankfully, it got the job done. I had to fork out about 345€ to have the internal mechanics of the throttle valve sorted out. Bit of a pain, I know, but worth it in the end. To answer your other question, I haven't had any big issues since the mechanic fixed the throttle valve potentiometer error. The old girl's been running smoother than ever! It was kinda like hitting the reset button on all those niggling issues. It's been just me, my Seat and the open road ever since. So, fingers crossed, you'll get the same relief I did. Cheers!

Cheers for the heads up. It's good to hear a fellow gearhead’s experience and advice. To know I'm not talking to thin air is something, haha! While the expense is a blow, I'm glad to know it will be worth it. Seems like the best course of action is to bite the bullet and hustle my Tarraco to a reliable workshop. Reset button for my ride, eh? That's something to look forward to! Appreciate the details and the best wishes. I'll keep you updated on how it goes, right now I am off to the mechanic's. Fingers crossed! Oh, and thanks again!
