Seat Leon 2017: Suspected fault in the camshaft phasing unit

Valve adjustment noise

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Weird engine noise

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Hello everyone, I've been having problems with my 2017 Seat Leon, petrol engine with 50843 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, the engine doesn't pull properly, runs unevenly and twitches when accelerating. Fuel consumption has skyrocketed, I also hear noises when adjusting the valves and strange engine noises. I now suspect that there is a fault with the camshaft adjustment. Has anyone ever had to deal with a problem like this? How did the repair go for you and how much did it cost at the garage? My last bill was pretty hefty. Many thanks for your experience.

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a quick update. After taking your advice, I immediately took my Seat Leon to the garage. As you have already guessed, it was indeed the camshaft adjustment. It had to be readjusted. The mechanic was really great, he explained everything to me in detail and took good care of my car. The repair costs amounted to 1250 euros. Thank you all very much for your tips and experience, they really helped me. You guys are great!

Hey, I actually had similar symptoms with my 2014 Seat Ibiza. It turned out that the camshaft adjustment was responsible. Back then, the camshaft had to be readjusted and checked. But don't worry, the repair was quite straightforward and not a big deal. So it's nothing serious and should be quite easy to fix. The important thing is that you do it quickly to prevent any possible long-term consequences. Hope this helps you. All the best for the repair!

Hey, I'm glad to hear that your issue with the cam timing wasn't too serious. My 2015 BMW 328i has been experiencing similar symptoms and I now suspect it might be the same thing. Do you remember how much the repair cost back then? And has a similar problem or something else occurred in the meantime? Many thanks for your help!

Hey, the cost was about €1300, which is quite a lot of money. But as I said, everything has been fine since then. Hope that helps you a bit! All the best for your repair too!

Hey, I'm new here, but I'll add my two cents anyway. I had similar problems with my 2016 Opel Insignia, with just over 160,000 km on the clock, and yes, it was indeed the camshaft adjustment. I would really recommend having it checked as soon as possible. In my case, the repair costs amounted to around 1400 euros - not exactly a bargain. But it's better than a major engine failure if you let it run for too long, which would be a whole different caliber of cost... All the best that you get your car sorted as quickly and easily as possible! Take care and let us know how it turns out.
