Seat Ibiza check engine light comes on Engine jerks (2015 petrol engine)

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Car won't start

Stalling while idling

Hey guys, my Seat Ibiza (petrol engine, year of manufacture 2015) is causing problems. Symptoms: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, engine is restless, jerking when accelerating, car won't start, high fuel consumption, stalling at idle, shuddering at idle. I suspect it could be due to defective ignition coils or misfiring. Has anyone had similar experiences? How was the problem solved at your garage? I am grateful for any tips! Thank you!

Hey, had a similar problem with my Seat Leon (2017 model year), also a petrol car. I have some experience with cars, but would say my level is "some experience." In my case, it was due to a faulty engine control unit (ECU). The symptoms were very similar: black smoke, engine light, loss of power, etc. My garage replaced the ECU for 1000 euros and then everything ran smoothly again. To be able to help you better: Which engine is installed in your Ibiza? Have you already checked the spark plugs or ignition coils? Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your tip! It's the 1.4 TSI engine with 217654 km mileage. I recently changed the spark plugs, but haven't checked the ignition coils yet. I'll check the ignition coils and see if they are the problem. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the info! Well, with a 1.4 TSI with this mileage, it's quite possible that the ignition coils are affected, especially if the spark plugs have already been changed. I had a similar problem back then, and after replacing the ignition coils, my Ibiza (also 2015 model) ran like a charm again. Even if your problem looks like mine with the control unit, I would definitely check the ignition coils first. They are easier and cheaper to replace before you get to the more expensive things like the control unit. Keep us posted on whether changing the ignition coils has helped! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the tips! I will definitely check the ignition coils first. Hope it really is that and not the ECU. I'll let you know if it worked as soon as I've done it. Best regards!

Good morning, Have you ever read out the error memory to see what your vehicle is storing as errors in order to narrow it down? Greetings Daniel
