Seat Ateca problems with misfiring for some time now

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, my Seat Ateca, year of manufacture 2017, petrol engine, has recently been causing problems. Symptoms: Black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, unsteady engine, jerking when accelerating, car won't start, high fuel consumption, stalling when idling, vibrations when idling. I suspect that the ignition coils are defective or that there could be misfiring. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give tips on how the problem was solved in the workshop? Which parts were replaced? Which workshop solutions really helped? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had similar problems with my Seat Leon, year 2019, also a gasoline engine. I have a bit of experience with cars, I'd say mid-level. In my case, the engine control unit was faulty. I went to the garage because the check engine light was also on and the engine was running rough - plus jerking and high fuel consumption. I also had black smoke and stalling at idle. The workshop carried out a diagnosis and determined that the engine control unit needed to be replaced. It cost me 1000 euros, but after that everything was fine again. Maybe it's the engine control unit in your case too? Which engine variant do you have and how many kilometers has your Ateca run? This will give you a better overview. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your tip! I now have 98,765 km on the odometer. Last inspection was about 10,000 km ago. The engine variant is the 1.4 TSI. I hope it's not the engine control unit, but I'll have it checked at the garage. Best regards!

Hey, no problem, gladly! I had about 92,000 km on the clock when the problems occurred. Your 1.4 TSI sounds relatively similar. Of course, I also hope for your sake that it's not the engine control unit, because that can really cost a lot of money... Another tip: With these symptoms, it could also be the mass air flow sensor or the lambda sensor. These two parts can also cause a loss of power, high fuel consumption and idling problems. In my case, the mass air flow sensor was already defective once and caused similar symptoms. It wasn't quite as expensive as the engine control unit. If the garage doesn't find anything specific, it might be worth having these parts checked. Keep me posted on what your garage says! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the tip about the mass air flow sensor and the lambda sensor, I'll definitely mention that when I go to the garage. Your experience report really helped me to get a better picture of the possible causes. I hope it's nothing too expensive, because that really wouldn't suit me at the moment. I'll definitely keep you up to date! Best regards!
