Seat Ateca 2017 - Problems with black smoke, loss of power and malfunctions when idling

Hi everyone, I have a 2017 Seat Ateca and I'm having real problems at the moment. When I accelerate, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the check engine light is on, the engine just stalls, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating, the car won't start and it shuts off when idling and the car shudders when idling. I think the problem could be with the idle control. Have you had similar experiences and how did you solve the problem in the workshop? Any tips are welcome. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Seat Leon, I only have some experience when it comes to cars so this was quite a frustrating problem for me. I took the car to my garage and they found that the idle actuator/idle control valve was dirty! After they cleaned it, it ran like a dream again and for a moderate 280 euros. What condition is your Ateca in otherwise? If you could tell me more about your car, that would be helpful in making further suggestions. I hope this helps you! Greetings.

Hey, thanks for your advice! My Ateca now has 35464 kilometers on the clock. As far as I know, the last service was fine, so there were no major problems. I'll take your tip about the idle speed actuator/idle speed control valve into consideration and then go to the garage. I hope it won't be too expensive. Best regards!

Hey, no problem! Given the mileage of your Ateca, it could well be that the idle control valve is dirty. Try having it checked at the garage. Don't worry, the costs are usually manageable. It's much more expensive if you ignore it and it leads to more serious problems. Hopefully this is the only mistake and your darling will be up and running again soon. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Regards.

Hi, thanks for the reassuring words! Yes, I will definitely go to the garage and have this checked to prevent it causing any major problems. As you say, hopefully that's the only fault. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how it goes. See you then and thanks again! Regards.
