S6 Window Controls Dead, Regulator Error Fix Needed

My power windows stopped working on my 2022 S6 (79000km). The window controls are completely unresponsive and my diagnostic scan shows a window regulator initialization error. Had a bad experience with my regular mechanic and looking for advice before taking it in again. Has anyone dealt with this issue? What was the actual problem and repair cost in your case?

I experienced a similar window regulator problem on my 2019 Audi S4. After replacing the battery, all power windows became unresponsive. The window switch system needed reinitialization, which is a common issue after battery disconnection or replacement. The window reset procedure fixed the initialization error in my case. Here is what worked: 1. Turn ignition to ON position 2. Press and hold window switch down until window fully opens 3. Release switch 4. Pull switch up and hold until window fully closes 5. Keep holding for 2 more seconds 6. Repeat for each window If the reset fails, likely causes include: Faulty window motor, Failed window regulator, Damaged window switch, Electrical system communication error In cases where the reset does not resolve the issue, component replacement becomes necessary. The car electronics need proper diagnosis to determine if its the window motor, regulator assembly, or switch causing the malfunction. Having this diagnosed by an authorized dealer is recommended since they can properly interface with the vehicle systems. This is generally not a serious mechanical issue but requires proper diagnosis to avoid replacing wrong components.

Thanks for sharing your experience with power window issues. I had the exact same problem on my S6 last month. I tried the reset procedure with no luck and had to get the window regulator replaced. The door panel removal was required to access the faulty parts. Did you ever find out the final repair cost in your case? Also wondering if youve had any window troubleshooting issues since the fix? My repair was quite recent and Im curious about long-term reliability.

Great to hear back about your S6 window situation. After my original battery replacement that triggered the window issues, the repair was actually quite straightforward. The window initialization problem cleared up after the shop replaced my vehicle battery, which came to 290 Euro total. The window controls have worked flawlessly since then, no additional window troubleshooting needed. While your case required a full window regulator replacement with door panel removal, mine was resolved through the battery replacement alone. The car electronics seem more sensitive to power interruptions than older models, which explains why window problems often surface after battery work. Its been about 8 months since the fix, and all window functions remain perfect with no initialization errors or other issues. The window reset procedure that I originally shared works great for routine resets, but as you discovered, sometimes deeper repairs are needed when theres actual component failure.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to close this out with my repair experience. After trying the window reset procedure without success, I took it to a certified shop. The window motor and regulator assembly needed replacement. The repair took about 3 hours including diagnosis. Total cost came to 780 Euro for parts and labor. They had to remove the door panel to access the faulty window regulator. The window controls now work perfectly and the initialization error is gone. The shop explained that water intrusion had damaged the window motor components over time. They checked all other windows and verified they were working properly. Its been 2 weeks since the repair with no issues. The power windows operate smoothly now and the repair seems solid. Good learning experience overall, though expensive. At least now I know what to check first if window problems come up again.
