Thanks for sharing your experience. My Audi S5 showed the exact same signs of transmission failure, really worried me when the transmission started acting up. The repair shop found multiple issues with the transmission sensor system. After they replaced the control unit and recalibrated everything, the transmission repair resolved all problems. The shifts are smooth again and no more error codes. Do you remember roughly what you paid for the fix? Also curious if any other transmission issues came up since getting it repaired? My mechanic mentioned keeping an eye on the neutral position sensor as a potential future maintenance item.

Thanks for the update about your S5. Glad to hear the transmission repair resolved the issues. Since having my automatic transmission fixed, everything has worked perfectly with no recurring problems. The parking position and shift lock are both functioning normally now. My total repair cost was around 1000 Euro for the affected control unit replacement and programming. This included the diagnostic work and calibration. A properly working transmission control unit made a huge difference in overall performance. The neutral position sensor my mechanic mentioned hasnt caused any problems in the 18 months since the repair. The transmission shifts smoothly between all gears now. Regular maintenance and fluid changes will help prevent future transmission failure. If your mechanic already identified the neutral sensor as a potential wear item, its worth monitoring. But with the main control unit fixed, you shouldnt face any major transmission issues for a while.

After struggling with similar symptoms for weeks, I finally took my S5 to a trusted transmission specialist. The gear shifter was acting up, making weird noises, and the automatic transmission felt rough. The mechanic found issues with both the control unit and gear linkage components. Total repair came to 1200 Euro including: New transmission control unit, Gear linkage adjustment, Full system calibration, Updated software The repair took 2 days but completely fixed the problems. No more issues getting into neutral position or engaging the park brake. The transmission shifts perfectly now. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who misdiagnosed the problem. Worth finding a specialist who really knows these transmissions. The car runs like new and I havent seen any warning lights since the repair 3 months ago. Will definitely keep up with regular maintenance to avoid future transmission problems. Thanks for the helpful advice that convinced me to get it checked out properly.

Had similar transmission issues on my 2012 A6 3.0T. The symptoms matched exactly, rough shifts, transmission slips, and problems getting into neutral position. The main problem was a faulty transmission control unit causing shift lock malfunctions. The automatic transmission would not recognize the park brake engagement properly, leading to erratic behavior and safety lockouts. The repair required: Complete diagnostic scan, Transmission control unit replacement, Software adaptation and coding, Shift mechanism calibration This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent further transmission damage. A failed control unit can cause complete transmission failure if not addressed. The repair restored proper shifting function and resolved all error codes. Consider having it checked soon, as these symptoms typically worsen over time. The transmission control unit failure is a known issue on these models when reaching higher mileage. Delaying repairs could lead to more extensive transmission problems. The parking position sensor and shift lock solenoid should also be inspected, as they commonly fail alongside control unit issues in this transmission design.
