RS7 Transmission Issues: Jerky Shifts & Limp Mode Alert

Looking for advice with my 2021 RS7 transmission acting up lately. When shifting between gears, it feels rough and jerky, almost like slipping. The gear selector sometimes hesitates before engaging. Car has 30607 KM on the clock and runs on premium gas. Recently got a service light and noticed the car went into limp mode, seems to be transfer case related. Had a bad experience with my regular shop last time, so quite hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would appreciate recommendations on what to check first or whether this needs immediate attention.

Having experienced similar symptoms with my 2018 RS5, those transmission issues typically indicate more than just a routine problem. The jerky shifting combined with limp mode strongly suggests a potential powertrain malfunction that could involve multiple systems. When my control module detected irregularities, it turned out the torque converter was failing, which caused similar hesitation during gear engagement. The diagnostic trouble codes revealed that the traction control system was also affected due to the transfer case issues. The most concerning part was that the initial transfer case problem had created consequential damage to the ABS system. What started as rough shifting eventually led to a cascade of electrical and mechanical issues that required immediate attention to prevent further damage. This type of problem generally requires specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise. Based on your symptoms and my experience, this isnt something that should wait. The combination of limp mode and transmission issues often indicates a serious underlying condition that could lead to more extensive damage if not addressed promptly. The traction control system and transfer case work together closely, so when one shows problems, its crucial to have both thoroughly checked. Would strongly suggest finding a certified shop that specializes in performance vehicles rather than postponing the repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the RS5. It was helpful to learn how your transmission trouble turned into a bigger issue. My RS7 showed similar warning signs before the main repairs, and the diagnostic trouble codes also pointed to multiple system failures. After getting it fixed last month, the car runs perfectly now, no more limp mode or gear selector problems. Just wondering about the repair costs in your case, and have you noticed any other issues popping up since the initial fix? My mechanic mentioned these problems sometimes return if not all components are properly checked.

Good to hear your RS7 is running smoothly now. After my repairs, the transfer case limp mode issue never returned. The diagnostic trouble codes were cleared and my ABS system was restored without any costs since it was deemed a factory-related issue affecting multiple components. My torque converter ended up being fine after a thorough inspection, unlike what was initially suspected. The traction control warnings disappeared once the main issue was resolved. Its been over a year now with no transmission problems or warning lights. Key was finding a qualified technician who understood how these systems interact. The proper diagnostic approach saved unnecessary parts replacement and prevented recurring issues. Regular monitoring of the transmission behavior has shown everything remains stable. Would recommend keeping an eye on your transmission fluid levels and temperature readings even though its fixed now. These early indicators can help catch any potential issues before they trigger limp mode again.

After dealing with this headache for weeks, I finally got my RS7 sorted at a certified performance shop. The mechanic found multiple fault codes related to the transfer case and powertrain malfunction. Turned out the gear selector issues were connected to a failing control module that was causing the transmission to behave erratically. The repair took 3 days and cost 4800 Euro, but watching the torque converter struggle made me realize waiting would have caused more damage. Since the fix, shifting is butter smooth and no more limp mode warnings. The tech explained everything clearly and showed me the worn components. Much better experience than my previous shop. Sometimes paying more for the right expertise saves money in the long run. Really glad I didnt wait any longer to get it fixed. The car feels like new again and I learned my lesson about taking transmission issues seriously from the start. Will definitely stick with this shop for future maintenance.
