RS7 Oil Pressure Warning: Critical Pump Failure Alert

Thanks for sharing your experience. My RS7 has 59394 KM and just had its annual service last month with full synthetic oil change. The oil pressure sensor readings are erratic at idle, showing extremely low values around 0.5 bar. The knocking gets louder above 2500 RPM. Last oil change showed no metal particles, but the oil filter was clogged with debris when inspected. The oil leakage seems minimal, with no visible puddles under the car. Main concern is the persistent warning light and those worrying engine noises, especially since proper oil viscosity was used during service. Based on the similar symptoms and repair costs you shared, I will schedule a diagnostic check focused on potential oil pump failure before this causes major engine damage.

Thanks for those additional details. The symptoms you describe are nearly identical to what I experienced with my RS6 before the repair. The erratic oil pressure readings at idle and knocking above 2500 RPM strongly point to oil pump failure, just like in my case. The clogged oil filter with debris is particularly concerning, this was also found in my car and indicated the oil pump was already starting to deteriorate. The fact you are using the correct oil viscosity but still experiencing issues reinforces this diagnosis. After my repair, I learned these engines are quite sensitive to oil pressure fluctuations, and the engine bearings can wear rapidly once the oil pressure drops below spec. The debris in your filter could be early signs of bearing wear. When my oil pressure sensor readings dropped to similar levels (around 0.5 bar at idle), it was crucial to minimize driving until the repair was complete. The total repair cost might actually be lower than what I paid (755 Euro) if caught early enough before additional damage occurs. Would recommend requesting the workshop to: 1. Perform a complete oil pressure test across different RPM ranges 2. Inspect the engine bearings for wear 3. Check the oil pump drive system 4. Test the oil pressure sensor for accuracy

Based on your feedback and repair recommendations, I will have the car towed to avoid any potential engine damage. The similarities between our cases, especially the clogged oil filter and erratic oil pressure sensor readings, make me confident this needs immediate attention. The workshop confirmed they can perform all suggested tests tomorrow. They mentioned typical repair costs range from 700-900 Euro depending on whether the engine bearings need replacement along with the oil pump assembly. Will ask them to thoroughly inspect for debris in the oil system and verify the oil pressure gauge accuracy across all RPM ranges. Makes sense to address this proactively before bearing wear becomes severe, especially given the knocking sounds are most noticeable above 2500 RPM. Will update once they complete the diagnostic tests and confirm whether its indeed an oil pump failure causing these issues. Really hoping to catch this early enough to avoid more extensive engine repairs.

Had the exact same issue on my 2015 RS6. I have some experience working on these engines and immediately suspected oil pump problems when similar symptoms appeared. The oil pressure sensor readings were fluctuating and the warning light kept coming on intermittently, especially during idle. Those mechanical noises you describe match what I experienced, it was a deep knocking sound that got worse under acceleration. Took it to my workshop where they confirmed a failing oil pump through diagnostic tests. The reduced oil pressure was causing inadequate lubrication. They had to replace the entire oil pump assembly and install a new oil pressure gauge since the old one was damaged. Total repair came to 755 Euro including parts and labor. Critical to fix this quickly, low oil pressure can cause catastrophic engine damage if left unchecked. Would need some additional details about your car to provide more specific guidance: Current mileage? When was your last oil change? Is the noise more pronounced at specific RPMs? Have you noticed any metal particles during recent oil changes? Any other warning lights appearing?
