RS7 Height Sensor Issues Causing Suspension Warning

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

My 2014 RS7 is having suspension issues that are getting worse. The ride height is uneven between front and rear, and the headlights are pointing incorrectly. The suspension warning light is on, and the ride feels unusually bumpy. The diagnostic shows a height control restriction error. The leveling system seems to be malfunctioning, but I want to get this fixed properly the first time. Has anyone dealt with similar height sensor or automotive suspension problems on their RS7? What was the actual issue and how did your workshop resolve it? Looking for real experiences before taking it to a shop.

Having dealt with similar height sensor issues on my 2014 RS6, I can share some experience. I had medium experience with suspension work, but this was my first time dealing with air suspension problems. The symptoms were nearly identical, uneven ride height and that annoying warning light. The control module was reporting height control errors, just like yours. After scanning, my workshop found a faulty control rod connected to the height sensor. The load sensor readings were completely off, causing the automotive suspension system to misread the vehicle position. The fix was straightforward but required proper diagnostic equipment. Total cost was 110 Euro for parts and labor. The repair took about 2 hours, and the air suspension has worked flawlessly since then. To provide more specific guidance for your case, could you share: Current mileage, When did the symptoms first appear, Whether the issue gets worse in cold weather, If you hear any unusual noises from the suspension, Previous suspension work history These details would help determine if your RS7 has the same underlying issue or if something else might be causing the height sensor malfunction.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My RS7 has 114085KM and had its last service 3 months ago. The suspension issue started gradually about 2 weeks ago. The leveling system seems to act up mostly during cold starts. I hear a slight clicking noise from the rear when the car tries to adjust ride height. The control module shows the same error codes you mentioned related to height sensors. I have not had any previous suspension work done besides regular maintenance. Did your workshop mention if this is a common failure point for these load sensors? Also curious about any preventive measures they suggested after the repair.

Thanks for those additional details. Given the mileage and symptoms you described, it definitely points towards the same height sensor issue I encountered. The clicking noise from the rear during height adjustments is a telltale sign, exactly what my RS6 was doing before the repair. The leveling system struggles most during cold starts because the control module receives incorrect readings from the faulty load sensor. The workshop confirmed this is a fairly common wear point in our cars models around 100000-120000KM. The leveling sensors and control rods are constantly working to maintain proper ride height, so they do eventually wear out. After the repair, they recommended: Regular inspection of the air suspension components during service, Checking the control module readings every 30000KM, Keeping the leveling sensor linkages clean from road debris, Not ignoring early warning signs from the automotive suspension system The good news is that once properly fixed, the air suspension and leveling system should work reliably for another 80000-100000KM. Just make sure your workshop uses OEM parts for the height sensors, aftermarket alternatives tend to fail much sooner. The repair cost might be slightly higher on the RS7 compared to my RS6, but addressing it promptly prevents additional wear on other suspension components.

Thanks for the detailed information. This actually helps a lot in confirming my suspicions about the height sensor problem. The service history and symptoms match perfectly, especially the cold start issues and clicking noise during height adjustment. Since my mileage falls right in that 100000-120000KM range where these failures commonly occur, it makes sense to address it now. I will book the car in and specifically ask them to check the control rods and load sensors. The automotive suspension warning cannot be ignored, and I want to prevent any additional wear. Good point about insisting on OEM parts for the height sensors, definitely worth the extra cost for long-term reliability. Will ask them to perform those recommended preventive checks too. The regular inspection of suspension components makes sense given how the leveling system needs to work constantly. Better to catch any potential issues early than wait for a complete failure of the control module or other related parts.
