RS6 Oil Pressure Alert: Warning Signs You Can't Ignore

Need advice quick, Oil pressure warning and possible engine oil contamination in my 2002 RS6 (61k km). Noticed the oil pressure warning light coming on recently, along with a general warning in the dash. Last mechanic visit left me skeptical about their diagnosis. Any experience with similar symptoms? Looking for signs of oil sludge or potential engine damage to watch for. Would appreciate insight from those who dealt with this before getting it checked by another shop.

The oil pressure warning combined with oil contamination signs needs immediate attention. Had similar issues with my 2005 S6 where delayed maintenance led to engine damage from oil sludge buildup. Key warning signs to check: Dark, gritty oil on the dipstick, Ticking noise from the engine, Oil pressure fluctuations at idle, Engine running rougher than usual The oil leak and contamination in my case required complete oil system cleaning, new seals, and replacement of several components due to excessive wear. This became a serious repair because the oil additives had broken down, causing accelerated engine wear. Recommend: 1. Stop driving immediately if oil pressure warning stays on 2. Check oil level and condition 3. Get professional diagnosis focusing on: Oil pump condition, Oil pressure sensor, Main bearing wear, Timing chain tensioner condition The Audi V8 engines are sensitive to oil maintenance intervals. My situation progressed from a simple maintenance issue to requiring major engine work because warning signs were ignored. Your 61k km is relatively low, but age-related oil contamination can still cause significant engine damage.

Thanks for the detailed response about the oil contamination issue. My RS6 showed the same symptoms last month, the oil pressure warning and rough idle were particularly concerning. The mechanic found significant oil sludge buildup affecting the oil pump performance. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? My fix required a complete oil system flush, new oil filter, and replacement of the oil pump, but wondering how it compares. Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the repair was done.

Good news on getting that oil contamination resolved. Since having the repairs done on my S6, there have been zero recurring issues with oil pressure or engine performance. The complete maintenance service fixed the problem permanently. My total repair costs were significantly lower at 165 Euro since we caught it early and only needed to address the overdue maintenance interval. This included a thorough oil system cleaning and fresh oil filter installation. The oil leak checks came back clear, which helped avoid additional expenses. This experience reinforces how critical regular oil changes are for these engines. Fresh, clean engine oil really makes a difference in preventing sludge buildup and maintaining proper oil pressure. Your repair bill sounds higher because you needed the oil pump replacement, but that should provide good long-term protection against future engine damage. Key is staying on top of maintenance schedules now. These engines really need strict adherence to oil change intervals to prevent contamination issues from returning.

Thanks for the input. After taking it to a reputable shop this week, they confirmed severe oil contamination and failing oil pressure. The full repair came to 850 Euro including labor, they did a complete oil system flush, replaced the oil filter and oil pump as mentioned. The mechanic showed me the old oil filter which was completely clogged with sludge, explaining why the engine oil pressure kept dropping. They also found minor wear on some bearings but caught it before any major engine damage occurred. Been driving it for a few days now and the difference is dramatic, no more warning lights, smoother idle, and overall better performance. Learned my lesson about keeping up with maintenance intervals. The shop recommended 7500km oil change intervals given the engine age, which I will definitely follow from now on. Great to hear others had success resolving similar issues. Having a detailed maintenance history going forward should help prevent this from happening again.
