RS6 Central Locking Failure After Mechanic Visit

Fault stored

|

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Just had a frustrating experience with my mechanic and now my central locking system is completely dead. Neither the key fob nor keyless entry works, cant lock or unlock any doors. The onboard computer shows an error code. Has anyone dealt with similar locking mechanism issues on their RS6? Mine is a 2023 model with 178075km on the clock. Looking for recommendations on reliable fixes and what to expect cost-wise before heading back to a shop.

I encountered a similar central locking failure on my 2020 Audi S6. The key fob stopped responding completely, and the security system showed error codes. The issue turned out to be more complex than just dead batteries in the remote. The main problem was traced to corroded connections in the main fuse box, specifically affecting the central locking control module. Water had seeped in through a degraded door seal, causing connectivity issues between the car alarm module and the door lock actuators. The repair required: Cleaning the fuse box connections, Replacing the central locking control module, Reprogramming the security system, Testing all door lock actuators, Resyncing the key fob This type of issue is quite serious since it affects the entire car security system. While not a mechanical problem that prevents driving, it leaves the vehicle vulnerable and can potentially drain the battery if left unaddressed. For the RS6, these components are often interconnected with the immobilizer and car alarm systems, making diagnosis more complex. Getting it fixed at a specialized shop is crucial, as incorrect repairs can cause additional electronic system failures.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Had the exact same symptoms with my RS6 last winter. The whole security system was acting up and the key fob became completely unresponsive. Seeing how your fix involved multiple components makes me feel better about my repair costs. How much did you end up paying for the complete repair? Also curious if youve had any lingering issues with the locking mechanism or keyless entry since getting it fixed? My dealer warned me about potential recurring problems with the door actuators in cold weather.

Good news, my central locking system has been working flawlessly since the repair. The issue was much simpler than initially feared. While the symptoms matched yours, the mechanic found it was just a faulty cable connection to the locking mechanism control unit. The total repair cost came to 95 Euro, which included diagnosing and fixing the loose connection. This was a relief compared to potentially needing a full security system overhaul or keyless entry module replacement. No recurring issues with the door locks or keyless entry since then. The car security system has been functioning perfectly in all weather conditions. The mechanic mentioned these problems are often caused by simple connection issues rather than actual component failures in the RS6. Worth noting that regular maintenance of the door seals and keeping water away from electrical connections helps prevent similar central locking problems from developing. The key fob and all door actuators now respond instantly every time.

Finally got my RS6 back from the shop today. Really relieved it wasnt as complicated as I initially feared. The central locking system failure turned out to be caused by a corroded wire harness connector near the main fuse box. The mechanic showed me where water had leaked through and caused the connection issues. They cleaned up the corrosion, replaced the damaged wiring section, and sealed everything properly. The security system needed a quick reset and reprogramming to get the key fob working again. Total bill came to 280 Euro, much better than the 1000 Euro+ I was quoted for replacing the entire central locking control module. All doors are now locking properly, the keyless entry works perfectly, and no more error codes on the dash. Lesson learned about getting a second opinion. Will definitely keep an eye on those door seals to prevent future water damage to the electrical system. Thanks for the helpful advice everyone.
