RS6 ABS & Lateral Sensor Issues Need Expert Fix

ABS/DSC system is not working

Need help with ABS light and lateral sensor fault in RS6. Looking for advice from those who had similar issues. Just got back from a mechanic who I wasnt happy with. Car is a 2004 RS6 with 13673km, gasoline engine. Vehicle stability seems compromised and traction control acts up sometimes. The ABS system fails completely at times. Checked with a diagnostic scan and error codes point to the lateral acceleration sensor. Has anyone dealt with this and can recommend reliable fixes? Also interested in typical repair costs for this type of issue.

Had similar problems on my 2007 RS4. The diagnostic scan revealed a faulty lateral sensor causing unstable ABS performance and traction control issues. The steering angle calibration was also affected, leading to incorrect yaw rate readings. The root cause was a deteriorated control unit which impacted multiple systems simultaneously. These symptoms match yours, especially the intermittent ABS failure and stability issues. This is a serious problem that affects core safety systems. The fix required replacing the entire lateral acceleration sensor assembly and recalibrating the control unit. The repair involved: Complete removal of the old sensor unit, Installation of new OEM sensor, Full system recalibration, Multiple test drives to verify stability, Final diagnostic scan to clear fault codes Would strongly recommend finding a specialized Audi workshop familiar with RS models. This is not a DIY repair as it requires specific diagnostic equipment and expertise with the control unit programming. The traction control and ABS issues will likely worsen if left unaddressed. Given the safety implications, this should be prioritized despite the complexity of the repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the RS4, really helpful information. I had very similar problems with my RS6 last year. Everything you described matches what happened: electronic stability system going crazy, traction control acting up out of nowhere and ABS warnings. The specialized workshop I went to also found it was the lateral sensor and control unit that needed replacement. They did the full calibration too. Fixed the issue completely and vehicle stability returned to normal. Do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Just wondering how costs compare. Also, has everything stayed working properly since the fix or have you noticed any other issues pop up with the system?

Had it fixed last month actually. The control unit replacement and lateral sensor calibration cost 1000 Euro total, including labor. Worth every cent since the vehicle stability is now perfect. The electronic control systems are all functioning normally since the repair. No more ABS warnings or traction control glitches. The wheel alignment stayed true and the yaw rate readings are consistently accurate. The lateral sensor fault that was triggering those warnings is completely resolved. Really glad I went with a specialized shop that knew how to properly diagnose and fix these complex systems. These control units are sensitive components that need expert handling during replacement and programming. The car drives exactly as it should now, precise handling and stable performance in all conditions. No new issues have emerged since the repair was completed.

Just got back from the mechanic who did the full repair on my RS6. Total cost was 1200 Euro which seemed fair given all the work needed. The lateral sensor and control unit both got replaced and properly calibrated. The electronic stability systems are working perfectly now. My traction control stays consistent even on wet roads, and the yaw rate readings match what they should be. Best part is the ABS warnings have completely stopped. The specialized shop definitely knew what they were doing, much better than my first mechanic who couldnt properly diagnose it. They did thorough testing after the repair to ensure everything was calibrated correctly. Really relieved to have this fixed. The car handles like new again and all safety systems are functioning as they should. Worth every cent to have it done right by experts who understand these complex systems.
