RS4 Climate Control Failure: Repair Guide & Cost Tips

My Audi RS4 (2016, 97000km) has some concerning climate control issues. The panel seems unresponsive and my heating barely works. Air conditioning wont turn on at all and the car shows an error code in the system. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic and want to avoid getting ripped off again. Has anyone dealt with similar electronic faults in their RS4? Looking for recommendations on what the issue might be and reasonable repair costs for fixing climate control problems.

Having faced a similar issue with my Audi S4 (2019), the symptoms point to a common fault in the air conditioning control module. The temperature sensor malfunction typically causes the system to become unresponsive and throw error codes. The root cause was traced to deteriorated electrical connectors between the climate control panel and the main wiring harness. Over time, these connections can develop resistance or completely fail due to heat cycles and vibration. This repair required: Removing the center console, Testing the power supply to the control module, Replacing damaged electrical connectors, Updating the climate control software While not a critical safety issue, driving without proper climate control can lead to window fogging and passenger discomfort. The repair process is technical due to the need for specialized diagnostic equipment and proper reassembly of the center console components. A certified technician should be able to diagnose this definitively by checking the communication between the climate control module and the vehicle's main computer system. The issue gets worse if left unattended as moisture can further damage the electrical connections.

Thanks for the detailed reply about the HVAC system issues. I had the exact same symptoms with my RS4 last winter. After checking with multiple shops, I finally got it fixed. The blower motor and climate control module both needed replacement due to water damage from a clogged drain. The wiring harness also showed signs of corrosion. Did you happen to keep track of your repair costs? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since getting it fixed? My climate control has been working perfectly for 6 months now but always good to know what to watch out for.

After visiting my mechanic last month, the climate control panel is working flawlessly again. The fault was exactly where I suspected, a faulty connection in the wiring harness that links to the temperature sensor. The repair was straightforward and cost 95 Euro, which covered fixing the deteriorated electrical connectors. My electronic faults have completely disappeared since the repair. The control panel responds instantly now, and all climate functions work as intended. The key was finding a technician who properly diagnosed the connection issue rather than suggesting expensive component replacements. Regular inspection of drain lines can prevent similar issues. When water backs up, it often damages the electrical connectors first before affecting more expensive components. Keep an eye on any delayed response from the control panel, as this can indicate developing connection problems in the wiring harness. Based on the water damage you mentioned, it might be worth having the drainage channels checked periodically, especially before winter, to avoid future electronic faults.

Had a follow up visit to the mechanic today for the climate control issues. Turned out the blower motor was working fine, but there was significant corrosion in the wiring harness near the temperature sensor. Pretty relieved it wasnt as expensive as I feared. Total cost came to 320 Euro for replacing damaged electrical connectors and cleaning the entire ventilation system. The technician showed me where water had been leaking through a blocked drain, causing the electronic faults. They also applied some protective coating to prevent future corrosion. The climate control is now working perfectly, instant response from the panel and proper temperature regulation. Definitely learned my lesson about regular maintenance checks. Going to have the drains inspected every fall before the wet season hits to avoid another power supply issue with the control module.
