RS3 Phone Connection Issues: Troubleshooting Guide

Having issues with my 2023 RS3 where my phone refuses to connect. The car has stored an error in the memory and I suspect there might be some function restrictions active. Has anyone else encountered similar electrical faults with their phone connectivity? Would like to know what diagnostics your workshop ran and how they resolved it. Looking for tips before taking it to service to save time and possibly money. Would also help to know if this required any software updates or if it was related to hardware issues.

As someone with moderate experience working on Audis, I had a similar malfunction with my 2021 S3. The phone connectivity system showed the exact same symptoms, persistent connection failures and stored error codes. After some initial troubleshooting attempts, I took it to a workshop where they ran full diagnostics on the ignition system and connectivity modules. Turned out the Bluetooth control unit needed a reset and software update to properly pair with newer phone models. The entire fix, including clearing the error codes, cost 45 Euro. Quick troubleshooting steps you can try first: Delete all paired devices from the car system, Remove the car from your phones Bluetooth devices, Restart both the phone and cars infotainment system, Try pairing as a new device To provide more specific guidance, could you share: Your phones make and model, Which infotainment system version is installed, If any recent phone updates occurred before the issue started, Whether the problem happens with multiple phones or just one This way we can determine if its a broader system issue or device-specific pairing problem.

Thanks for your detailed suggestions. After my last service at 145938 KM I did attempt those reset steps, but the phone connectivity issue persists. The transmission and steering both work fine, but the error message keeps returning to the infotainment system. My iPhone 14 Pro worked perfectly for months until last week. Running the latest MMI software version 1283.5. No recent phone updates before the problem started. Tested with 3 different phones, none will connect properly. Rather concerning that a 2023 RS3 has these issues so early. Seems like it might need more than just a basic system reset at this point.

Having gone through this with my S3, I can relate to your frustration. Since you've tested with multiple phones and confirmed the latest MMI version, this points more toward an electrical fault in the connectivity module rather than a simple pairing issue as I initially thought. The fact that your transmission and other systems work normally helps narrow down the problem. Given that the error persists after testing with different phones, I suspect its either a faulty Bluetooth module or a damaged wiring connection, similar to what eventually happened in my case. A few additional technical points based on my experience: Check the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the MMI system, The ground connection to the MMI unit might need inspection, The control module might require complete replacement, not just reprogramming Since its a 2023 model, this should be covered under warranty. When I had mine repaired, the workshop found that water had slightly damaged the connectivity module connectors, causing intermittent electrical faults. The diagnostic process was quite thorough and covered: Full system scan, Testing individual module connections, Checking for any interference from other electrical components, Verifying power supply stability to the MMI unit Best to have it properly diagnosed while under warranty rather than waiting for potential bigger issues to develop.

Thanks for the comprehensive follow-up. After our discussion, I decided to take it to the dealer since multiple phones failing to connect clearly indicates a system-level electrical fault rather than a device issue. Booked it in for next week and requested they specifically check the connectivity module and wiring connections you mentioned. Makes sense about catching potential issues while still under warranty coverage. Will update the thread once they complete the diagnostics and fix the malfunction. Really hoping its just the module needing replacement rather than extensive wiring problems in the infotainment system. The warning message is getting quite annoying at this point. At least the engine light hasnt come on and the transmission is working normally. Just need to solve this connectivity problem to get everything back to normal operation.
