Rough-Running Vauxhall Adam: Multiple Warning Signs Alert

Strong exhaust smell

|

Loss of engine power

|

Check engine light on

|

Shaking while idling

|

Poor fuel economy

Hey everyone, my 2016 Vauxhall Adam is acting up lately. The engine's running rough, check engine light is on, and I'm losing power. Also noticing worse fuel consumption, strong exhaust fumes, and the car shakes at idle. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Adam? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any input would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Vauxhall Corsa. Those symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with last summer. Turned out to be faulty fuel injectors. My trusted mechanic diagnosed and replaced them, cost me around 515€. The car's been running smooth as butter since then. Before I share more details about my experience, how many miles/km on your Adam? Are you getting any specific error codes? When did these symptoms first start? This info would help me give you more relevant advice based on what I went through with my Corsa.

Thanks for the reply! Mine has 36233 KM and had its latest service about 2 months ago. The symptoms started about a week ago, gradually getting worse. I haven't checked the error codes yet, but I'll get them read tomorrow at my local auto parts store. Your fuel injector experience sounds similar to what I'm dealing with, especially the rough idle and poor fuel economy. I'll definitely get that checked out first.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your Adam. Yeah, those numbers sound really familiar, my Corsa had around 42000 KM when I ran into the same issues. Since your symptoms started showing up so suddenly after a recent service, I'd definitely suggest checking those fuel injectors first, just like I did. When my Corsa had these problems, I first noticed the rough idle about a week before everything else started going downhill. The error code I got was P0201 (injector circuit malfunction), which pretty much confirmed what my mechanic suspected. Quick tip from my experience, while you're waiting to get it checked, try using a premium fuel for one tank. It helped my Corsa run slightly better temporarily, though it wasn't a fix. Also, when you get the codes read tomorrow, feel free to share them here. I still have my old diagnostic reports, and I can tell you if they match what I experienced. Keep us posted! I know how frustrating these issues can be, especially when they pop up right after a service.

Thanks so much for all the detailed help! I'll definitely try the premium fuel tip while I wait to get it checked, anything to make it run a bit smoother right now. It's really reassuring to hear your Corsa had such similar symptoms at a similar mileage, and that it was sorted with new injectors. I'll get those codes tomorrow and post them here. Super grateful for your help and experience with this. It's been driving me crazy trying to figure out what's wrong, especially since it started so soon after the service. I'll update you once I know more. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a solid starting point to work from!
