Thanks for sharing your experience with the injector cleaning and testing. Had something similar with my Dodge Nitro last winter. Hard starting was making me crazy until I got the fuel injection system properly checked. Can you share what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if the cold start issue has stayed resolved or if you noticed any other fuel delivery problems since the fix? Would help to know if I should budget for possible follow-up repairs.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting the faulty cold start injector replaced, my Ram has been starting perfectly, even on the coldest mornings. The rough idle and multiple start attempts are completely gone. The total repair came to 515€ for diagnosing and replacing the defective injection valve. While not cheap, it was worth fixing before it could cause engine misfire issues or damage other components in the fuel system. Its been over a year now and Ive had zero fuel delivery problems or cold start issues since the repair. The engine fires up immediately and runs smoothly from the first turn of the key. Regular fuel system maintenance should help prevent similar problems from developing again. Based on my experience, once the faulty injector is properly diagnosed and replaced, you typically dont need to budget for additional related repairs as long as you stick to the recommended maintenance schedule.

Wanted to update everyone on my Nitro situation. Finally took it to a mechanic last week after the cold start problems got worse. The diagnostic testing confirmed what many here suspected, faulty fuel injectors causing rough idle and hard starts. The fuel system inspection showed two injectors needed replacement due to carbon buildup. Total repair bill came to 580€ including parts and labor. Not exactly cheap but the difference is like night and day. No more multiple attempts to start in the morning and the engine runs perfectly smooth from cold. Much better experience with this shop compared to my last repair. They took time explaining the fuel injection system issues and showed me the dirty injectors. For anyone dealing with similar cold start problems, getting proper injector testing done early is definitely worth it. Got about 500km on it since the fix and everything is working great. Starting first try every morning, even in cold weather. Really glad I got this sorted before it could cause more serious engine problems.

As an owner of a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, I experienced nearly identical cold start problems. The symptoms strongly pointed to a faulty fuel injector system, which was confirmed through proper injector testing at the shop. The rough running during cold starts is a classic sign of injector problems. In my case, carbon deposits had built up in two injectors, preventing proper fuel atomization. This created the exact symptoms you describe, multiple start attempts needed and rough running until warm. The fuel rail pressure was also tested, which helped isolate the problem to the injectors themselves rather than the entire fuel system. The repair involved removing and cleaning all injectors, plus replacing the two that were beyond salvaging. This is considered a serious issue that should be addressed promptly, as faulty injectors can lead to: Increased fuel consumption, Engine misfires, Potential damage to other engine components, Failed emissions tests For your Nitro, I would recommend getting a professional injector test done soon. Cold start problems with diesels often point to injection issues, and catching it early prevents more extensive damage.
