Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That makes me feel better knowing someone else dealt with something similar. My Astra's acting pretty much the same way yours did, really good to know it might just be those vacuum hoses and the purge valve. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repairs? Also, has everything been running smoothly since you got it fixed, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? I'm actually in Birmingham, but really appreciate the Manchester recommendation!
Hey again! Yeah, happy to give you an update, the car's running like a dream now! After getting it fixed at my local garage, all those annoying symptoms completely disappeared. No more jerking, shaking, or rough idling, it's smooth sailing all the way! The total bill came to 175.00 € for replacing those worn-out hoses. The mechanic found that the tank ventilation system was indeed the culprit, just like I suspected. They sorted that out right away, and I haven't had a single problem since. The check engine light's gone too, which is always a good sign! Even though you're in Birmingham (I'm still up in Manchester), I'm sure you'll find a decent mechanic who can handle this. It's actually a pretty straightforward fix once they know what they're looking for. Just make sure they check those vacuum lines thoroughly, they're often the root cause of these symptoms in Vauxhalls. Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted!
Thanks for all the detailed info! I actually went ahead and got my Astra checked out yesterday at a local garage here in Birmingham that specializes in Vauxhalls. You were spot on, it was exactly what you described! The mechanic found three cracked vacuum hoses and a dodgy purge valve. Ended up paying about £190 for the whole job, which wasn't too bad considering. The best part? My car's running perfectly now! No more shaking, jerking, or power loss. Even that annoying check engine light has finally gone off. Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. The mechanic said the same thing about catching it early before it caused bigger problems. They were actually pretty decent, showed me all the old parts and explained everything clearly without trying to push unnecessary repairs. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the decision to get it sorted! Now I can finally enjoy driving without worrying about the car acting up!
Hey there! I had pretty similar issues with my 2007 Vauxhall Corsa just last month. The symptoms were nearly identical, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and that annoying shake at idle. For me, it turned out to be a combination of vacuum hoses that had deteriorated and cracked over time, plus a faulty purge valve in the EVAP system. Got it fixed at my local garage last week, they had to replace three hoses and the purge valve. It wasn't a super serious issue, but definitely something that needed fixing before it could cause bigger problems. I'd really suggest getting those vacuum lines checked, when they start going bad, they can cause all those symptoms you're describing. The mechanic showed me how the old hoses were basically falling apart when they removed them. The whole EVAP/tank ventilation system is pretty sensitive to any vacuum leaks. If you're anywhere near Manchester, I can recommend my mechanic, they really know their Vauxhalls and didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary work.
