Engine shuts off by itself

Hey all! Having a nightmare with my 2020 Honda Ridgeline (gas engine, 292,520 KM). The engine's acting up badly, black smoke when I hit the gas, constant stalling, and jerking during acceleration. Check engine light's on too. Engine keeps cutting out unusually and fuel consumption's gone through the roof. Had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Pretty sure it's fuel-related. Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for fixing this issue. Thanks!

Hey there! I faced nearly identical issues with my 2018 Honda Pilot last year. Black smoke, stalling, and poor acceleration, the works. After diagnostics, it turned out to be faulty fuel injector wiring and a damaged connector plug. The smoke and high fuel consumption were dead giveaways. Got it fixed at an authorized service center. They had to replace two injector harnesses and clean the fuel system. It was a serious job that took a full day, but it solved all the symptoms completely. The mechanic mentioned these issues are fairly common once you pass 250,000 KM. Honestly, with these symptoms, you'll want a proper diagnosis at a reputable shop. DIY fixes might make things worse. Consider getting it checked at an authorized Honda dealer, they'll have the right diagnostic tools for your Ridgeline. Best of luck sorting it out.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since our symptoms match so closely. I'm leaning towards getting it checked at a Honda dealer after hearing your story. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Thanks again for the detailed info!

Hey again! Glad I could help! Just wanted to follow up, yes, everything's been running perfectly smooth since I got it fixed. The total bill came to €95.00 for replacing the defective cable and plug. Money well spent, if you ask me! The fuel composition errors that were causing all that drama completely disappeared after the repair. The Honda techs really knew their stuff, my Pilot's been running like a dream for the past year. No more black smoke, stalling, or any of those scary symptoms. Fuel consumption is back to normal too, which is a huge relief for my wallet! Trust me, getting it checked at the dealer was the right move. They have all the proper diagnostic equipment and really understand these specific issues. Best decision I made instead of trying cheaper alternatives or DIY fixes. Good luck with your Ridgeline! Let me know how it goes after you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my Ridgeline to the Honda dealer yesterday. You were spot on, it was exactly what you described with the fuel injector wiring and connector plug! They quoted me €110.00, which seems fair considering how much trouble it's been causing. What a relief to know it's a fixable issue and not something more serious. They're working on it right now, and I should get it back tomorrow. Can't wait to have my truck running properly again without all that scary black smoke and stalling. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to go to the dealer instead of trying unusual fixes. Fingers crossed I'll have the same great results you did with your Pilot! Thanks again for all your help with this!
