Repair costs for defective electric seat adjustment in BMW X3

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 2012 X3 BMW Diesel, which has already run over 154,124 km. For some time now, the electric seat adjustment has not been working properly and I am also getting an error message. Surprisingly, the last time I went to the mechanic, the guy cost me a lot of money, so I'm a bit worried now. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can you share your experience of the costs incurred at the garage for something like this? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The electric seat adjustment in a 2012 BMW X3 is malfunctioning, accompanied by an error message. A similar issue was resolved in a BMW X1 by fixing a fault in the control system, costing around 225 euros. It is suggested to compare prices from different garages to find a reasonable repair cost. The problem is likely not serious and should be easily fixable, ensuring the seat adjustment functions properly again.

Exactly, comfort is super important, I've got another long journey coming up soon, so I'd like to have that fixed again. I'll have a look around at various garages and compare prices. Hopefully everything will go as smoothly as it did for you and then I can relax in my driver's seat and get on with the miles. Thanks again for all the help & advice!

Hi, I understand your problem. A similar thing happened to me, only with my 2015 BMW X1. The electric seat adjustment strangely gave up the ghost. Imagine it was nothing serious. A simple fault in the control system. Don't worry, it's nothing serious and should be fairly easy to fix. On my next visit to the workshop, they easily rectified the fault and everything is running smoothly again.

Hey, thanks for the encouragement, that reassures me a little. Do you happen to remember roughly how much you put down for that repair? And has there been any other issue that has come up with the seat since then?

Hey, I'm glad I could help you a bit. Well, I had to pay about 225 euros for the repair of the defective seat module. But I have to say that since the repair was carried out, there have been no further problems. The electric seat adjustment works perfectly again and the problem has not recurred. So, cheer up, you'll be fine!

Hey guys, just wanted to chime in. So, power seat adjustment is really important for driver comfort and for an optimal seating position, especially with higher mileage like your BMW. The seat adjustment as a whole can help you feel comfortable even on longer journeys, which is certainly relevant in a car with over 150,000 km on the odometer. Incidentally, repair costs can sometimes vary depending on the workshop and the exact problem. So maybe it's worth getting a few quotes. All the best for the repair!
