Renegade Timing Chain Issues Sap Power and MPG

Had the same thing with my Renegade last month. The engine light came on with similar timing chain symptoms. My crankshaft sensor turned out to be the main culprit causing those weird power drops. Just curious, what did you end up paying for the repairs? In my case there were a few extra small parts that needed replacing while they were in there checking the camshaft timing. Has everything been running smoothly since the fix?

Since getting the work done I have zero issues. The mechanic found and fixed the crankshaft to camshaft reference value, which completely resolved those power problems. The total repair cost was 340 Euro, primarily for the defective crankshaft sensor replacement. The engine synchronization is now perfect, no more misfires or sluggish performance. I had considered replacing the cam sensor too while they were working on it, but testing showed it was functioning correctly. The timing belt and other components also checked out fine during inspection. Its interesting you had similar symptoms with your Renegade. These sensor issues seem to be a common point of failure affecting engine timing and performance. At least the fix is straightforward once properly diagnosed.

Took my Renegade to the mechanic last week after getting advice here. The diagnosis confirmed it was the crankshaft sensor causing timing issues. They checked the entire timing chain system while doing the work. Total bill came to 380 Euro including labor. They also found and replaced a worn tensioner pulley during inspection. Really glad I got it looked at before any serious engine damage occurred. Car runs perfectly now, power is back to normal and fuel consumption has improved significantly. No more engine light or timing-related problems. The misfire issues completely disappeared after they corrected the camshaft timing sequence. Thanks for the input everyone. Would have spent more time and money troubleshooting without your help pinpointing the likely causes.

I experienced similar symptoms on my 2018 Compass Hybrid. The reduced power combined with engine misfire was caused by a failing crankshaft position sensor, which led to engine synchronization issues between the crankshaft and camshaft. The timing chain itself was intact, but the sensor malfunction caused incorrect signals to the engine control unit. This created timing issues, resulting in poor fuel economy and sluggish performance. The repair involved replacing both the crankshaft sensor and checking the timing chain tensioner to ensure proper operation. This is a serious issue that requires immediate attention, as continued operation could lead to engine damage. The symptoms match classic timing-related problems: increased fuel consumption, power loss, and engine management light activation. The mileage on your Renegade suggests timing components might need inspection. A proper diagnosis should include checking the timing chain wear, camshaft sensors, and crankshaft position sensor. These components work together to maintain proper engine synchronization. While timing chain replacement wasnt necessary in my case, having the entire timing system inspected is crucial for preventing more severe engine damage.
