Renegade Hybrid ECU Glitch Causes Total System Failure

Can anyone help with a 2020 Renegade Hybrid that seems to have multiple electrical issues? The navigation system is completely dead, and the onboard computer shows general electrical malfunction warnings. After checking error codes, it points toward software issues. Looking for feedback from others who dealt with similar ECU problems, especially regarding what the fix was and if a software update resolved it. Did the workshop need to do a full control module recalibration or was it a simpler software bug fix? Want to understand what to expect before taking it to service.

I had a very similar issue with my 2018 Compass Hybrid last year. Have some experience working on cars but control unit problems are definitely workshop territory. The symptoms matched exactly what you describe, dead navigation, error messages everywhere, and the ECU throwing multiple codes. After a full diagnostic check, they found the control module was showing implausible values due to a software bug in the system. The fix required a complete software update and recalibration of the control unit. Total cost was 240 Euro which covered the programming and testing. The workshop needed about 3 hours to complete everything, but it solved all the electrical issues completely. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Exact error codes showing up, Whether the issues started suddenly or developed gradually, If any recent work was done on the electrical system, Current mileage, Whether the battery has been replaced recently The control module problems can stem from different root causes, so these details would help narrow down if your case matches what I experienced with my Compass.

Thanks for your input. My current mileage is 159813 KM, with the last service done about 2 months ago. The error codes started appearing suddenly after that service. Looking at the diagnostic report, main codes are P0606 and P0700. I appreciate you sharing the repair cost estimate and time frame. This gives me a good baseline for what to expect at the workshop. The software update and control module recalibration route seems the most logical first step, especially since the issues appeared right after regular maintenance. Havent had any battery work done and no other electrical system modifications. Will schedule an appointment to have the ECU problems checked out properly.

Thanks for providing those details. The P0606 and P0700 codes on your Renegade definitely match the control unit issues I experienced with my Compass. The timing after the service visit is particularly telling, sometimes routine maintenance procedures can trigger dormant software bugs in the control module. In my case, a full software reset followed by a complete system update resolved the issue. The workshop also had to perform an additional control unit recalibration because the software update alone didnt fully restore proper communication between all modules. Since you mentioned no battery work was done, its worth noting that low voltage conditions during the service could have corrupted some software parameters. The control module is particularly sensitive to voltage fluctuations during maintenance procedures. With similar mileage on my vehicle when this happened (around 165000 km), the complete software update and recalibration process fixed both the navigation system and cleared those electrical fault codes permanently. Just make sure the workshop uses the latest software version for the update, there were several revisions specifically addressing these control unit communication issues.

Your diagnostic codes combined with the timing of these issues appearing right after service really helps confirm what we're dealing with. I feel more confident now knowing its likely a control unit software problem rather than a hardware failure. Will definitely request they check for the latest vehicle software version during the repair. The navigation system being completely dead along with those specific error codes P0606 and P0700 matches the software corruption scenario perfectly. Based on the workshop time estimate of around 3 hours and 240 Euro cost for the full software update and control module recalibration, I can better plan for the repair. Good to know the fix worked permanently on a similar vehicle with comparable mileage. Really appreciate the detailed explanation about how maintenance procedures can trigger these onboard diagnostics issues. Will book the appointment tomorrow and make sure to mention all these specifics about the software reset and recalibration requirements.
