Rear window heating on BMW 6 Series (2003) not working: experience and advice

Heated windows without function

|

Fault stored

Hello everyone, I have problems with my rear window heater on my 2003 BMW 6 series with gasoline engine and 166386 km mileage. The windshield just won't heat anymore and it seems to be a stored error. Unfortunately, I didn't have such a good experience on my last visit to the garage, so I wanted to ask around if anyone has had similar problems with the function of their rear window heater and how it went during the repair at the garage. Feedback and tips are very welcome! Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar situation with my 2006 BMW 5 Series. The rear window heating suddenly gave up the ghost completely. At my garage they put the problem down to a faulty switch, which had to be replaced. They also checked some cables and found that they had become slightly loose. Once they had fixed them and replaced the switch, the rear window heating worked perfectly again. So it could be similar problems with you. In any case, it was no small matter, but in your case no reason to hang your head in shame. Hope this helps!

Hi, your experience actually sounds very similar to what's going on with my 6. Do you happen to remember how much you spent fixing the problem? And has anything else come up since then that might be related to the rear window heater? Thanks for your reply!

Hey, yes, after the mechanic worked on it, my rear window heater is running smoothly again. The repair, fixing the heater wires, cost me €585. But I haven't had any more problems since then, so I'd say it was worth the money. Since then I've been able to enjoy clear vision in the cold again. Hope this helps you!

Hey, that definitely helps. It sounds like it will be money well spent if the car works properly again afterwards. I really appreciate your help. I think I'll go for it and make an appointment with the garage. Maybe they will have some other tips for me. Thanks again for your advice!

Hi I had exactly the same problem last winter. From one day to the next, my rear window heating in my BMW stopped working. You won't believe it, but in my case it was only due to a weak battery. My garage said I should just drive a longer distance to recharge the battery. Done and lo and behold, fully functional again. I hope you will be able to solve your problem before the next frost.
