Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the fluid and seal issues, definitely sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repairs set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other transmission quirks?
Hey again! Just wanted to give you a quick update on my situation. So after getting it fixed, I paid 365.00 € which covered both the transmission fluid issue and the sensor replacement. Honestly, it was money well spent, my Range Rover Sport's been shifting like a dream since then! You know what's funny? When I first posted about my problems, I was convinced it was just the transmission temp sensor acting up, but like I mentioned before, they found that low fluid level was the real troublemaker. Now that both issues have been sorted, I haven't had a single transmission problem. No more grinding noises, weird shifting, or any warning lights popping up on the dash. If your symptoms are anything like what I experienced, getting it checked out sooner rather than later is definitely the way to go. Trust me, the peace of mind is worth it! Let me know how it turns out for you, always curious to hear about fellow Range Rover owners' experiences.
Thanks everyone for the advice! I wanted to give you all an update on what happened with my Range Rover. Finally got the courage to take it to a new mechanic today, and I'm actually relieved I did! Turns out it wasn't just the transmission temp sensor like I initially thought. The mechanic found that my transmission fluid was really low and pretty dirty too. They did a complete flush, changed the filter, and fixed a leaky seal that was causing all the problems. Also replaced that faulty sensor while they were at it. The whole thing cost me about 400 bucks, not nearly as bad as I was worried it might be! Took it for a test drive afterward and what a difference! No more grinding sounds, the shifting is super smooth now, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it checked out. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and find a good mechanic, you know? Thanks again for pushing me to get it looked at, you all probably saved me from some serious transmission problems down the road!
Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2011 Range Rover Sport (5.0L V8). The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced, rough shifting, grinding, and warning lights. Initially thought it was the sensor too, but when I took it to the garage, they found the transmission fluid was critically low and contaminated. Turned out to be quite serious, the low fluid level was causing the erratic shifting and grinding. The contaminated fluid had started to damage some internal transmission components. Had to get a transmission fluid flush, filter change, and they replaced a worn seal that was causing the leak. The whole ordeal took about two days to fix, but worth it as it prevented potential transmission failure. Make sure they check the fluid level and condition first before jumping to sensor conclusions. Better to catch these things early with transmissions. Hope this helps with your decision.
