Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same thing with their Rover. Good to know it turned out to be the camshaft sensors. Would you mind sharing what the repair ended up costing you? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Just want to be prepared in case there's anything else I should watch out for with mine.
Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Yeah, I had it fixed about a year ago and it cost me exactly 695.00 € to repair the defective sensor wheel on the camshafts. Honestly, it was worth every penny because the car's been running like a dream since then. The mechanic found that the sensor wheel on the camshafts was the root cause, not just the sensors themselves. The best part? Haven't had a single issue with it since the repair, no more stalling, rough starts, or any of those annoying symptoms. The engine runs super smooth now. I actually feel pretty lucky because I was worried it might've been something more serious (and expensive!). Since you asked about other issues to watch out for, honestly, once this was fixed, everything else has been pretty standard maintenance stuff. Just keep up with your regular oil changes and service schedule, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps put your mind at ease about getting yours fixed! Let us know how it turns out.
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I bit the bullet and took my Rover to a mechanic yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was the camshaft sensor wheel causing all the trouble. The repair was a bit pricey at 780.00 €, but honestly, I'm just relieved it wasn't something worse. The mechanic explained everything clearly and showed me the worn-out parts. Got it fixed right away, and wow, what a difference! The engine starts up perfectly now, no more scary flashing lights, and it's running super smooth. It's like driving a completely different car. You were right about getting it checked quickly, the mechanic mentioned waiting longer could've caused more problems. Really glad I asked here first and got your advice. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the right decision and know what to expect. All good now!
Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2005 Range Rover Sport (gas engine) last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, flashing CEL, stalling, hard starts, and rough idle. Turned out to be a failed camshaft position sensor. Had it fixed at the garage where they confirmed both camshaft sensors were defective. It wasn't a major repair, but definitely needed immediate attention since bad sensors can cause serious engine performance issues and potentially damage the catalytic converter if left unchecked. The job took about 2 hours, they replaced both sensors and cleared the codes. The engine ran smooth right after, and all those annoying symptoms disappeared completely. Been running great since then. I'd say get it checked soon, driving with these symptoms isn't good for your engine. It's a fairly common issue with these models, and any experienced Range Rover mechanic should be able to diagnose and fix it quickly. Hope this helps!
