Range Rover Hybrid Overheating & A/C Failure Mystery

Overheating

|

A/C System Not Engaging

Hey everyone! Having some trouble with my 2022 Range Rover Hybrid (51,903 km) and could use some advice. The engine's been overheating lately, and the A/C won't kick in at all. I suspect it might be the motor fan speed sensor acting up. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Range Rover? Would love to hear about your experiences and if you can recommend a trustworthy mechanic who's familiar with these hybrid models. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I actually faced almost identical issues with my 2019 Range Rover Sport P400e Hybrid last spring. The symptoms were exactly what you're describing, overheating engine and A/C problems. In my case, it was indeed the speed sensor causing the trouble. My car had around 45,000 km when it happened. Got it fixed at the service center, and the job involved replacing both the sensor and some related wiring that had degraded. It wasn't a major repair in terms of engine damage, but it needed immediate attention to prevent any serious issues. What made it tricky was that the faulty sensor was causing the cooling fan to run at incorrect speeds, which explained both the overheating and A/C problems. The whole repair took about a day and a half. Since it's a hybrid system, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked soon, these symptoms shouldn't be ignored, especially in a hybrid powertrain. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with hybrid Range Rovers specifically.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know I'm not alone with this issue. Would you mind telling me what the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other problems pop up since getting it fixed? Mine's still under warranty but I'd like to know what to expect. Thanks!

Hey again! Happy to help with more details. Since you asked, yes, I got the motor fan speed sensor fixed and it cost me 250.00 € total. The good news? Haven't had a single issue with overheating or A/C since then! It's been running smooth as butter. The repair was honestly worth every penny. Once they replaced that faulty sensor, everything went back to normal, the cooling system works perfectly now, and the A/C blows nice and cold. No more warning lights or temperature spikes at all. Since you mentioned your car's still under warranty, you might get an even better deal than I did. But honestly, for what it's worth, that 250.00 € really sorted everything out completely. Just make sure whoever works on it knows their way around hybrid systems, that's super important. The best part? Haven't had to visit the mechanic for anything related to this issue since getting it fixed. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me! Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks for all that detailed info! I actually took it to the mechanic yesterday after our chat, and you were spot on! It was the speed sensor causing all the trouble. The mechanic had to order a special part, but since mine's under warranty, I didn't have to pay anything except a small diagnostic fee. The funny thing is, while I was waiting at the shop, I saw another Range Rover with similar issues pull in! Got chatting with the owner and turns out it's a pretty common problem with these models. The mechanic was great though, really knew his stuff about hybrids and explained everything clearly. The whole thing took about 4 hours to fix, and my car's running perfectly now. The A/C is blowing cold again, and no more overheating issues. Such a relief! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted quickly instead of waiting around and potentially causing more damage. The best part? No more stressing about whether the temperature gauge is going to spike during my drives! Thanks again for your help!
