Range Rover Climate Control Failure: Common Issues & Fixes

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2021 Range Rover's climate control. The heating and cooling aren't working properly, and I suspect it might be related to the electric auxiliary heater or climate control system. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Really interested to hear what the problem turned out to be and how your mechanic fixed it. Any tips or warning signs I should look out for? Thanks in advance!

Hey! I had a very similar issue with my 2019 Range Rover Sport last winter, and I've got some basic experience working on cars. The symptoms were exactly like yours, the heating system was acting up. After struggling with it for a few days, I took it to my regular workshop. Turns out the electric auxiliary heater was completely shot and needed replacement. The whole repair, including parts and labor, cost me about 350 Euro. What a pain! But honestly, it was worth fixing right away because these heaters are pretty important for proper cabin heating, especially during cold starts. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Are you getting any warning lights on the dash? Does the issue happen right at startup or after driving for a while? Is the A/C working normally? Being another Range Rover owner, I might be able to help more with these details.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm getting similar symptoms with my Rover at 121314 KM. No warning lights on the dash, but the issue starts right after turning on the car. The A/C seems sluggish too, not the strong flow it used to have. Just had my regular service last month and everything else is running fine. Definitely worth checking the auxiliary heater based on what you mentioned. The symptoms match up pretty well with what I'm experiencing. Hoping it won't be too expensive to fix!

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your Range Rover. Yeah, those symptoms sound really familiar, exactly what I dealt with on my Sport! Since you mentioned the A/C flow is sluggish too, I'm now thinking there might be more going on than just the auxiliary heater in your case. After my heater fix, I actually had a similar A/C issue pop up a few months later. Turned out my blower motor was starting to go bad too, that's what was causing the weak airflow. Got that replaced as well, cost about 280 Euro including labor. These Range Rovers can be tricky with their climate systems! Quick tip from my experience, check if the airflow is equally weak from all vents. In my case, some vents were blowing weaker than others, which helped the mechanic diagnose the problem faster. Also, I'd recommend getting it checked soon since these issues tend to get worse over time. I learned that the hard way! Let me know what you find out. Really curious if it's the same issue I had! Keep us posted.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've actually made me feel a bit better about the whole situation, at least I know I'm not alone with these Range Rover climate control quirks! I just checked the vents like you suggested, and you're right, the passenger side ones are definitely weaker than the driver's side. Really starting to think it might be that blower motor issue you mentioned. I've already called my mechanic and booked it in for next week. The prices you mentioned for both repairs actually sound pretty reasonable, was worried it would be way worse! Will definitely keep an eye on the airflow pattern until then. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and those diagnostic tips. I'll update the forum once I find out what's actually causing the problem. Thanks again for all the help!

I have a range rover sport L494 and only hot air comes out of the right side. The hatches work fine, but I don't know if it's from the heating element or the heating radiator. Anyone with the same problem?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a faulty blend door actuator. This component is responsible for controlling the mix of hot and cold air. If it's malfunctioning, it could cause hot air to come out of one side while the other side works fine. I recommend starting with a check of the blend door actuator. If you're comfortable doing it yourself, you can try to manually move the blend door to see if it's stuck or not moving smoothly. If you're not comfortable doing this, I'd recommend taking it to a mechanic. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any other questions.
