Thanks for sharing that experience! It's good to know I'm not alone with these Range Rover troubles. You really nailed it with the detailed explanation about the lambda sensors, makes total sense. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? These luxury SUVs can be tricky with repairs, so I'm trying to budget properly and know what to expect. Thanks again for your help!
Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Yeah, I can definitely help with the cost info. The whole repair, including parts and labor, came to 375€ for replacing the lambda sensor. Money well spent, if you ask me! Since getting it fixed, my Range hasn't given me any more trouble with that exhaust aftertreatment malfunction, it's running smooth as butter now. The black smoke is completely gone, and the engine's got its power back. You know that feeling when your car just runs right? That's where I'm at now. I totally get what you mean about these luxury SUVs being tricky with repairs. But honestly, once you find a good mechanic who knows what they're doing (and doesn't try to oversell you on unnecessary work), it's worth every penny. My advice would be to get it sorted sooner rather than later, these things tend to get more expensive if you let them drag on. Let me know how it goes with yours! Always happy to share experiences with fellow Range Rover owners.
Thanks so much for all that detailed info! I just got back from the mechanic and you won't believe it, it was exactly what you described! The lambda sensor was toast, just like yours. Paid a bit more than you did, around 450€, but they also cleaned up some minor exhaust leaks while they were at it. Honestly, such a relief it wasn't something more serious. The car's running like a dream now, no more black smoke, power's back, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It helped me walk into the shop knowing what to expect, and I wasn't taken for a ride price-wise. These Range Rovers might be maintenance hungry, but when they're running right, they're worth the hassle! Thanks again for the solid advice. Hope you keep enjoying your smooth-running Rover!
Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2011 Range Rover Sport last year. The black smoke, weak acceleration, and that annoying check engine light, been there, dealt with that. Turned out one of my lambda sensors (oxygen sensors) was completely shot. These sensors monitor the fuel mixture and tell the engine computer if it's running too rich or too lean. When they fail, your engine starts dumping too much fuel, hence the black smoke and poor performance. It's not super serious if fixed promptly, but ignoring it can lead to catalytic converter damage, which is definitely something you want to avoid. In my case, the mechanic replaced the faulty sensor and cleared the error codes. The car's been running smooth since then, no more smoke, better power, and that check engine light finally went off. Just make sure you get a proper diagnosis first, as these symptoms can sometimes point to other issues in the exhaust system. Good luck with the fix!
