Range Rover ABS & Airbag Warning Lights Puzzle: Help Needed

Airbag warning light

Hey everyone! Having some worrying issues with my 2018 Range Rover Diesel (169,848 km). The ABS and DSC aren't working, plus I've got both airbag warning lights lit up. Did a scan and it seems to point to the steering angle sensor communication being faulty. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar warning lights and sensor issues on their Rover? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 Range Rover Sport Diesel last year at 155,000 km. Got the same warning lights, ABS, DSC, and airbag warnings all at once. After inspection, turned out it was just corroded wiring and a loose connection to the steering angle sensor. The cable harness had worn down from normal wear and tear, causing intermittent communication failures. It wasn't actually a serious problem, just needed proper cable replacement and securing the connections. The sensor itself was fine. Had it fixed at a garage specializing in Range Rovers. The repair took about 2-3 hours. My advice would be to find a specialist who really knows these models, as general mechanics sometimes misdiagnose it as a sensor failure when it's just the wiring. Hope this helps with your decision.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I was just wondering how much did you end up paying for that repair? My RR is showing pretty much identical symptoms to what you described. Also, have you had any issues pop up since the fix? Would love to know if it was a permanent solution or if I should expect other related problems down the line. Thanks again!

Hey again! Just wanted to update you, I paid 155.00 € for the repair, which included fixing the faulty cable connection to the sensor. Honestly, considering all those warning lights had me worried at first, I was quite relieved it wasn't anything more serious (and expensive)! The best part? Since getting it sorted at the specialist garage, I haven't had a single issue with it. The Communication with steering angle sensor fault was completely resolved, and all those warning lights disappeared. Been driving it for months now without any problems whatsoever. These Range Rovers can be tricky beasts, but sometimes what seems like a major problem turns out to be just a simple wiring issue. Definitely worth getting it checked out by someone who knows their stuff. From my experience, once the cable connection is properly fixed, you shouldn't have to worry about this particular problem coming back. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks for all the info! Just wanted to update everyone, I took my RR to a specialist mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was indeed a wiring issue! The mechanic found some corroded cables near the steering angle sensor. Repair cost me 180.00 € in total, a bit more than what you paid, but they also did a full system check while they were at it. The whole thing took about 3 hours. All warning lights are now off, and the car's running perfectly again. What a relief it wasn't something more serious! Really glad I didn't panic and replace the entire sensor like my previous mechanic suggested. Just goes to show how important it is to find someone who really knows these vehicles. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it definitely helped me make the right decision. Now I can finally enjoy driving my Rover without those annoying warning lights!
