Raider's Blower & Temp Issues: Could Bad Sensor Be Culprit?

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Blower does not work properly

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone, my 2005 Mitsubishi Raider has been giving me trouble lately. The blower isn't working right, heating/cooling is weak, and there's a warning light on the speedometer. I suspect it might be the outdoor temperature sensor causing these issues. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Any tips on troubleshooting this would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a really similar issue with my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander (I have some experience working on cars but nothing too fancy). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I went through last summer! Took it to my local workshop and it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the temperature sensor. The whole repair, including diagnosis and labor, cost me around 155€. The mechanic said these connections can get corroded or loose over time, especially in older Mitsubishis. Before I can give you more specific advice, Has the blower ever worked intermittently? Where exactly is the warning light showing up? How long has this been happening? This might help pinpoint if you're dealing with the exact same issue I had. Let me know and I'll share more details about my repair experience!

Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, the blower has been working on and off for about two weeks now. The warning light is on the right side of the speedometer cluster. My mileage is at 138,083 km and I just had it serviced last month. I've noticed the blower works better in the mornings but gets worse throughout the day. Really helpful to know about that cable connection issue you had, I'll definitely get that checked out. Did you notice any pattern like this with yours before getting it fixed?

Hey again! Yes, that's exactly how mine acted up too! The morning/daytime difference you're experiencing really rings a bell, my Outlander did the same thing. I remember it working decent in the mornings but getting worse as the day got hotter. In my case, the temperature readings were getting more inaccurate as the car warmed up, which was messing with the whole HVAC system. The warning light was showing up in the same spot as yours, and mine also had about 145,000 km when this happened. After getting it fixed, my mechanic showed me the corroded connection, it was pretty nasty! The temperature changes were causing the loose connection to expand and contract, making the problem worse during temperature swings. Since the repair, everything's been working perfectly for the past 8 months. Quick tip: While you're waiting to get it checked, try gently tapping around the sensor connection (it's usually near the front bumper or radiator). If the blower behavior changes when you do this, it's almost certainly the same connection issue I had. Let me know if you end up getting it checked out, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same problem!

Thanks so much for all this info! I actually tried your tapping tip around the sensor area, and sure enough, the blower started acting differently, exactly like you said it would! I've already called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. The fact that your symptoms match mine so closely, especially that morning/daytime pattern, makes me pretty confident this is the same issue. It's such a relief to know it's likely just a corroded connection and not something more serious. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and that troubleshooting tip. I'll definitely update this thread once I get it fixed, in case anyone else runs into the same problem with their Mitsubishi! Thanks again for all your help!
