Thanks for sharing that, seems our issues are pretty similar. My antenna looks physically fine, but I'm now thinking that might be deceiving since my latest service at 51373 KM showed no obvious external damage either. The static noise definitely gets worse during rainy weather, and the system seems to completely freeze up when driving near power lines. The rest of my vehicle electronics work fine though, it's just the infotainment system acting up. Interesting that an antenna booster helped solve your problem. Did your mechanic mention if there was any corrosion on the antenna ground connections? I'm wondering if starting with a signal strength test might help pinpoint whether I need a full antenna replacement or just some connection fixes.
Yeah, definitely sounds like we're dealing with the same headache. When my mechanic dug deeper into the antenna ground connections, they actually found some nasty corrosion hidden where you couldn't see it from the outside. The car radio problems getting worse near power lines is exactly what happened with mine, classic sign of poor signal reception. The signal strength test was really eye-opening. My mechanic hooked up their diagnostic tool and the readings were way below spec. That's why they suggested adding the antenna booster alongside fixing the ground connections. The static noise completely disappeared after that. One thing they mentioned, sometimes the vehicle electronics can show false error codes when the antenna isn't properly grounded. The poor signal basically confuses the whole infotainment system. Getting the connections cleaned and protected made a huge difference in preventing future corrosion. Worth checking if your antenna mount has any play in it too. Mine had loosened up over time, which didn't help with signal quality. A proper ground and solid mount are really key for clean reception.
Thanks for all that detail, especially about the hidden corrosion. Makes total sense about the false error codes now. I'm going to book it in next week and specifically ask them to check the antenna ground connections and do a signal strength test first. The radio interference near power lines is driving me crazy, and I'd rather fix this properly than keep dealing with a glitchy system. Will definitely have them look at the antenna mount too, haven't checked if it's loose actually. Might spring for an antenna booster while they're at it, especially since it helped solve your static noise issues completely. The fact that your mechanic found those hidden connection problems makes me think there's probably more going on than what's visible on mine too. Hoping a proper diagnosis will save me from having to replace the entire system. Will update once I get it checked out, in case anyone else runs into similar FM signal problems with their Orlando.
Had the exact same problem with my 2015 Chevy Cruze diesel. System was completely dead, lots of static, and error messages popping up. After some troubleshooting, my mechanic found the FM signal was basically non-existent due to a faulty antenna. The poor signal was causing the infotainment system to glitch out. They had to replace the entire antenna assembly and check all the antenna ground connections. Also installed a small signal amplifier to boost reception quality. The fix cost me 255 Euro but totally worth it, system works perfectly now, no more static or error messages. What's your current antenna setup looking like? Any visible damage? Could help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue. Also, have you noticed if the problems get worse in certain areas or weather conditions? Would help to know if your vehicle electronics are showing any other weird behavior.
