QX Seat Motor Issues? Common Fix Revealed!

Electric seats malfunction

|

Fault stored

Hey everyone! Got an issue with my '04 Infiniti QX. The passenger electric seat stopped working and there's a stored error code for it. Has anyone dealt with this before? Looking for tips on what your mechanic found and how they fixed it. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience working with cars and had a similar issue with my '02 Infiniti G35 last year. The electrical problems are pretty common in these older Infinitis (I also owned an FX35 before). In my case, it turned out to be a dead battery that was causing various electrical issues, including power seat malfunction. My trusted mechanic ran a diagnostic and found that the old battery wasn't holding charge properly anymore, affecting all electrical components. Got it replaced for about 290€ and that fixed everything. What's your battery's age and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, which QX model do you have exactly? This could help narrow down if we're dealing with the same problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My QX is at 134,800 km and just had service last month. The battery's actually pretty new replaced it about 6 months ago, and it's working fine. All other electrical components are working perfectly, it's just this passenger seat that's acting up. It was working fine one day, and the next morning nothing. No movement at all, completely dead. The error code shows up consistently though. Really hoping it's not the motor itself!

Hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your QX. Hmm, since you've got a new battery and everything else is working fine, this definitely sounds different from what I experienced with my G35. In my case, after having similar seat issues some time after the battery problem, it turned out to be a faulty switch in the seat control panel. Cost me around 180€ to fix, way better than replacing the whole motor! Since your seat died suddenly overnight, I'd bet it's either the switch or a wiring issue these older Infinitis sometimes have wires that can break or come loose, especially in the seat harness area. Quick question when you try to move the seat, do you hear any clicking sound at all? With my G35, there was a faint click when I pressed the controls even though the seat wouldn't move. That helped my mechanic diagnose it as a switch problem rather than a motor issue. If you're worried about the motor, might be worth getting the wiring checked first it's usually the cheaper fix. My mechanic always starts with the simplest (and least expensive) possibilities before moving on to the bigger stuff.

Oh that's such a relief to hear! I was dreading having to replace the whole motor. No, I actually don't hear any clicking when I press the controls it's just completely silent. I'll definitely have my mechanic check the wiring and switch first. They're way cheaper fixes than a new motor, for sure! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I'll be calling my mechanic tomorrow to schedule a check-up, focusing on the wiring and switch like you suggested. Will let you know how it turns out if I find anything interesting. Thanks again for all the help!
