QX Owners: Nav/Audio Dead Electrical Mystery Solved?

Audio system is not working

|

Navigationssystem is not working

Hey Infiniti owners, my 2017 QX diesel has some electrical gremlins. Both nav and audio system completely dead, and I suspect it might be related to the interior lighting. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What did your mechanic find and how was it resolved? Really need some real-world feedback on this problem.

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2019 Infiniti Q50 diesel (I have some experience working on cars, but electrical issues are tricky). The interior lights were acting up, and it was affecting other electrical components too. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty connection in the overhead console that was causing multiple electrical issues. The mechanic had to replace some wiring and a light assembly. Cost me around 85€ for the whole fix, and everything's been working perfectly since then. What's the exact model and trim of your QX? Also, when did you first notice these problems? Might help me give you more specific advice since Infiniti electrical systems can be quite similar across models.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My QX is at 245,732 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. The problems started last week, completely out of the blue. Everything was working fine after the service, and then suddenly, both systems went dead on my morning commute. It's odd because I haven't had any electrical issues before this. The timing of your similar problem and solution is really helpful I'll definitely have my mechanic check the overhead console connections. Did your mechanic mention if this is a common issue with Infinitis? Just trying to figure out if I should expect more electrical problems down the line.

Hey again! Yeah, so after that overhead console fix I mentioned earlier on my Q50, I actually learned quite a bit more about these Infiniti electrical quirks. My mechanic (great guy, been working on Infinitis for years) told me it's not super common, but he's seen similar issues pop up in other models, especially once they hit around 200,000 KM. Since you mentioned yours started suddenly, that's exactly how mine acted up too. One morning everything was fine, and then boom systems just went dark. But here's something I didn't mention in my first reply about a week before the complete failure, I noticed some flickering in the interior lights during night driving. Did you notice anything like that? A quick tip from my experience: before you take it to the mechanic, check your fuses if you haven't already. I initially forgot to check mine (felt pretty dumb about that later!). While my issue was indeed the overhead console, it's worth checking the basics first. And to answer your question about long-term reliability my Q50's been rock solid since that repair six months ago. No other electrical gremlins have shown up. Your mileage is a bit higher than mine though (I'm at 198,000 KM), but these cars are generally pretty robust even at higher mileages. Keep us posted on what you find out! Always curious to hear how these things turn out.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! Actually, now that you mention it, I did notice some slight flickering in the dome lights a couple of times last week, but honestly didn't think much of it at the time. Guess that was probably the warning sign I should've paid attention to! I'll definitely check those fuses first thing tomorrow morning can't believe I didn't think of that either! It's really reassuring to hear that your Q50 has been trouble-free since the repair. Mine's been such a reliable car up until now, so I'm hoping it's just a similar minor issue like yours. I've got an appointment with my mechanic next Tuesday, and I'll make sure to mention the overhead console connection issue you experienced. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this it's exactly the kind of real-world experience I was hoping to find out about. I'll update this thread once I figure out what's causing the problem!
