Uneven Ride Height

Help needed, looking for experience with height control problems on my Q7. Car developed several issues lately: dashboard warning light, headlights pointing wrong, and the ride height seems off, front sits noticeably different than rear. Getting a really uncomfortable ride quality too. The automotive suspension seems totally messed up. Previous mechanic visit left me with doubts about their competence, so want to hear about similar experiences before choosing where to get it fixed. Vehicle details: 2005 Q7, gas engine, 174615km. Could the leveling system be failing? Already checked and there are error codes stored in the control module. Any input on repair costs or recommended fixes would be great.

Had similar height sensor issues on my 2018 Q8. The symptoms match what you describe, uneven stance, headlight aim problems, and warning lights related to the air suspension system. The root cause was a faulty height level sensor control rod on the front right suspension. The sensor itself was intact, but the linkage had worn out, causing incorrect height readings. This made the system compensate incorrectly, leading to the automotive suspension behaving erratically. This is a serious issue that needs proper diagnosis and repair. The height adjustment system relies on accurate sensor readings to maintain proper vehicle stance. When the sensors report incorrect values, it affects ride comfort, handling, and safety systems. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Testing all height sensors, Replacing the defective control rod, Recalibrating the air suspension system, Setting proper headlight alignment More extensive problems could indicate issues with the compressor or air struts, but start with checking the height sensors. A qualified shop with experience in air suspension systems should handle this repair. Worth noting the same symptoms could also indicate a leaking air spring, so proper diagnosis is essential before replacing parts.

Thanks for sharing your experience with similar Q8 height control problems. The air suspension issues you described sound exactly like what I am experiencing with my Q7. Great to know it was the height level sensor causing the trouble rather than a complete suspension failure. Since my automotive suspension problems started showing up, I have been worried about potential repair costs. Would you mind sharing what you ended up paying for the height sensor fix? Also curious if you have had any load sensor or other suspension issues pop up since getting it repaired? I am trying to figure out if I should tackle the height adjustment repairs now or wait a bit longer. The ride quality keeps getting worse though.

The repair fixed my height control restricted warning completely. The leveling sensor replacement solved all the issues, no more uneven stance or headlight problems. Total cost was 110 Euro for replacing the control rod on the faulty sensor, which was much less than I feared. Since the repair 8 months ago, the automotive suspension has worked flawlessly. No load sensor problems or other suspension issues have appeared. The ride height stays consistent and the ride quality is back to normal. Based on my experience, I would not recommend waiting to fix this. The longer you drive with faulty height sensors, the more strain you put on other suspension components. Plus, having incorrect ride height can affect tire wear and handling safety. The diagnostic process was straightforward and the fix was relatively simple once they identified the specific sensor issue. Much better to address it now than risk more extensive suspension problems developing.

I finally got my Q7 fixed after dealing with those suspension issues! After hearing about your similar experience, I took it to a specialized shop that focuses on air suspension systems. Their diagnostic confirmed it was indeed the height sensor causing problems, just like in your case. The mechanic found a damaged control rod on the front left height sensor plus some wear on the right one. They replaced both sensors and recalibrated the entire height adjustment system. The automotive suspension is working perfectly now, no more uneven stance or headlight issues. Total repair came to 280 Euro for parts and labor, which was actually less than I expected given how the previous shop made it sound like a major system failure. The ride quality is back to normal and the warning lights are gone. Really glad I got this done instead of waiting. The shop showed me how the faulty leveling sensor was affecting other components. Thanks for encouraging me to get it fixed promptly rather than risk bigger problems developing.
